National Employment action plan letter

I received one of these in the post the other day calling me for an interview. I did a search and it seems people have been getting these letters since 2010 but a few things have changed since then so I was wondering if anybody who has had one recently can tell me what to expect?

The letter itself refers to "Offering support to consider job vacancies and the range of training courses available". I'm worried that its just a pretext to get me into a job bridge scheme for 9 months which I amn't thrilled about to be honest. Two of my personal friends completed these recently and neither were taken on. The Aldi down the street from me has several checkout girls on this scheme and its like a revolving door every six months. It really just seems like a scam to me. I'd rather sweep the streets or do charity work or something than work for free for some company that will just replace me with another free worker when my time is done.

    Should I be worried?

You goto a group meeting and then a one to one meeting with someone from fas/dsp or LES.

I find LES amazingly helpful myself

They helped me with advice on going back to education, updating my cv, applying for CE

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Does anyone know if casual claimants have to follow up on this action plan?

I don't know but I do know if you don't attend the meetings there is a possibility of your jobseekers being cut - obviously as a casual worker it may be more difficult to attend appointments but if you dont show up and dont contact them then it may go on your record and you may be adversely affected.
