      Peter McDonald from (Paths to Freedom) playing the role of Johnny Giles in The Damned United.
      Gilesy was of a low stocky build and P McD is a tall, skinny, knobbly knees kinda lad. The only thing in common the actor has to the part is he's Irish and male.

      I'm a fan of Idris Elba but it's a stretch to say the least having him play Nelson Mandela (he said as much himself though).
