lely really are selling the idea that dairying is for part timers too.
before anyone jumps on me i know that there's a lot more to milking than the actual milking..

Reading the add it seems to be a small farm with a handy number of cows, so fair play to him to make the jump to stay in milking to try and save some of the hardship and not have to go down the road of drystock or let out the farm, which is usually what all the bigger farmers want you to do!
but unless your sure of an income 16k per year repayments is a nice bit to meet, it would be nice to see some more articles in the press with farmers of 50-60 cows making a living

I seen this myself there today. Full time teacher, part time farmer and a young family to look after. More power to him! Thinking of making my way over to see for myself. Sounds like a road my farm could be going down in a few years hopefully.

Full time teacher, part time farmer, married with 4 young children. Highly organised. Liquid milk, 50 high yielding cows, excellent grass man. Well worth a visit. Not often us SLIGO lads are leading the pack !!!

Agreed, dairying is a full time job, and trying to combine it with another full time job will mean seriously sacrifices elsewhere. A robot will help you hold down a full time job by allowing you to be flexible with time, but at the end of the day you largely will end up with the same workload, just different jobs.

What were your impression of the robot and the lifestyle change, or did the farmer say much about it

Robot very impressive. Really high tech. Plenty info from all the sales rep. Lifestyle gain for the farmer. More family time for him. Spoke to the farmers wife and she is delighted with it.
