I think science brought Adam and Eve behind the woodshed and put them out of their misery years ago.

Reminds me of Deliverance or The People Under The Stairs.

The children were the result of intimate relations between brothers and sisters, and uncles and nieces and fathers and daughters. Their family threw back to a set of great-great grandparents who were a brother and sister.

The family compulsion was regenerating itself.

The children were sexually involved with each other and only one, the youngest, a five-year-old girl, had parents who weren't related.

Don't a lot of the true story horror films about murderous inbred families come from Australia?

The problem is that the children who they give birth to are genetically ****ed up as a result, like the article says.

Does that not happen with "normal" couples as well?

    You're joking, right?

Did you bother to read the article at all? The 'having sex' bit is the least important part of what happened. The kids were also subjected to horrible abuses and were not even mentally well enough to understand how to use toilets or wash themselves.

Yeah but the chances are very low as you can see clearly from day to day life.

you see thats not what is in the bible.

Right so Adam and Eve were not the first humans, they were the first humans with a knowledge of God. This is evident when in the bible Cain is kicked out of the Garden.

"My punishment is greater than I can bear, Behold, Thou hast driven me out this day from the face of the earth; and from thy face shall I be hid; and I shall be a fugitive and a vagabond in the earth; and it shall come to pass that everyone that findeth me shall slay me." (Genesis 4:13‑14)

    and also

The Bible record is found in Gen. 4:16,17. After Cain had killed Abel, he departed from the land where he and Abel had lived. He moved to Nod, a land east of Eden. There he and his wife had a son whom he named Enoch. He also built a city which he also named Enoch.

now first part is who is referenced with "everyone" and the second part you need people for a city (disregarding the fact that the wife could be a niece/sister/cousin as lifespans in the bible can enter 100s of years).

Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying that you take everything in the bible literally but if you are going to criticise something make sure you know what you are criticising before making sensational thread names and statements.

if you class yourself as an Atheist thats grand but when you define atheist its "a person who disbelieves or lacks belief in the existence of God or gods." it does not say ridicule people with different beliefs. If you have an issue with Christianity or any other religion inform yourself about their beliefs. Don't listen to the extremists on either side, they do not have the support of the majority.

Just like all Muslims aren't terrorists, all Christians don't read the bible as fact but more of a guide.

I get the point that you mention the creationist theory and this isn't an attack on you in any way I hope you understand that I just find that you could have worded it differently or if you wanted a discussion on the actualities of beliefs etc you could try looking at some of the religious forums here on boards.

God that is horrific. Even in a huge country like Australia how did they remain unnoticed for so long? NSW is pretty well populated. Poor kids with a lifetime of suffering ahead of them :(

This reminds me of an episode of the x-files where there was this group of freaks causing havoc. Their house was found and their mother was strapped to a mechanics trolley under the bed for, aaah, entertainment.
    Genuinely freaky episode.

you do know that Japanese terrorist group that released Sarin on the Japanese subway detonated a nuke in the outback and nobody noticed bar someone who's beer fell over.

Read Bill Brysons book notes from a sunburnt country for an example of how vast and empty the place is.

is a map showing the size of Europe compared to Aus. Its not that surprising that there is unknowns out there especially when HUGE areas are still uncharted

Generally speaking no, although I don't know what the breeding practices are for the village you come from, so I couldn't possibly comment.

That pathetic response at a 'funny' insult makes very little sense. i asked whether genetic disorders can happen with "normal" couples and you come out with nonsense like the above. The answer to that question is of course yes. I thought everyone on boards was open minded and weren't bigots in relation to the sexual practices of consenting adults

The answer is yes but the risks are pretty low. When you have two siblings having children the chances of having a child with an abnormality greatly increases because the genetics are too similar.

Why don't you actually read the article before commenting? The kids were engaging in sexual activity with each other and their adult relatives. Also they were severely neglected and suffering from medical conditions as a result of 4 generations of inbreeding. Perhaps the great grandparents, who were brother and sister, were consenting adults but this has gone far beyond that and turned into generations of a abuse and neglect.

In an inbred family growing up in neglect themselves, would generation 3 know that they were in fact abusing/neglecting generation 4. Or, by then, would they just perceive it as normal?

To be honest, it was an appropriate answer to an obtuse and ridicolous question, compeltely at odds with the whole sequence of events... you are either delibertaely obstuficating the truth or very confused about what normal is...

Yes normal couples can give birth to genetically deformed children, but the fact of the matter is, incestous relationships can have a much higher consequene probality for genetic mutations and thus hardship on the child they give birth to, which I object to. You obviously think incest is ok, and have no problem with the awful handcicaps the children have had to suffer, as a direct result of incestous relationships, which have made them unable to properly look after themselves... to be against this is certaintly not bigotry, you have a warped view of reality.

No, just innocent human beings who were brought into the world under some of the worse circumstances imaginable and who will pay a price we can only imagine.

    Nothing funny there at all.
