    Hello everyone,

I qualified for the EU rate of Fees and not Free Fees, meaning that I have to pay both the Tuition Fees and the Student Contribution Charge. If my student grant is being approved, should SUSI pay for both or would they just pay for the Student Contribution Charge?

My application is on the final stage of procession and im 100% certain that it will be approved. I am curious as to what I am entitled for in this case

I had this same discussion with susi and the college i'm going to over course of today, susi said yes they would pay up to i think 6,020 euro a year worth of fees. It's still very touch and go because college tells you one thing and susi says another.

I'm not confident of getting the fees covered so really just letting you know what was said to me earlier. If you have any update at any stage reply back :)

The 6,020 that is meant to be paid by the SUSI, is it the Tuition Fees or both the Tuition Fees and Student Contribution Charge? My course is above about 7,000k both Tuition and Student Charge. I will ring SUSI now in regards to that.

They told me it was the student contribution and tuition fee, the person on phone may need some talking to and eventually have to check with supervisor. If you can get it on paper you're better off but it's hard

Ha Just rang the SUSI support now and was told that I have to wait until the grant is approved and see what im up against.

The person on the phone also checked with his supervisor as he is a newbie and hadn't much clue haha

I have forwarded a letter to the support unit detailing all the questions that needs answers. Hopefully they will get back to me with a better result!

I'm also hoping to get a "Fee Grant" from SUSI this year. Fingers crossed!

You can look at grant rates in this document here (Schedule 1, few pages from the bottom). Hope it helps!

Have you looked at Schedule 1 from my link? It says everything pretty clearly!

Yup I have. Based on Schedule 1, I qualify for 100% of both the Tuition and Contribution Charge as my family reckonable income is about less than 30K.

One thing that worries me is how would SUSI know that I qualify for the EU rate of Fee and not Free Fees?. I have tried contacting them about it but they re not great in problem solving at-all.

If there is any way they know that I am yet to pay both the Tuition and Contribution Charge I will be grand I bet

That's an interesting question! I read that college presents SUSI with a bill, and then SUSI pays whatever you qualified for... Maybe that's how?

I'd like to know as well...

It's possible, but then not the Registry nor the Fee Assessment Committee has ever mentioned that. Maybe SUSI will know by your application? Im still puzzled by that but we shall find out sooner or later......!

Oops, you re partner is really loaded :)
Yes, you qualify for 75% maintenance grant, 100% Tuition Fee and 100% of contribution Charge.

So in your case, your qualify for 100% of both Tuition and Contribution Charge!. Have a look at the form that I attached to see how you qualified for them. Hope that answers your question.

Wonder if anyone can help. I got a letter from SUSI this morning saying my postgraduate 100% fee contribution would be paid. I earned nothing at all in 2011 as I was in hospital for four months and before that was recieving social welfare. I am doing a postgraduate now and am on disability allowance of 188 per week. My tuition fees are 6015, does this mean they will only pay 2000 because if it does, Ill have to drop out of college. I earned approx 7,000 in 2011 and I cant imagine anyone earning much less than that! Its meant to be means tested isnt it?

It's means tested but due to the cutbacks in the last budget the typical maximum is a €2,000 contribution to your fees.

Though if your letter says you were awarded the Special Rate 100% then you qualify for approx €6,000

But if its means tested there couldnt be anyone qualfying for the special rate could there? I mean who else would have earned 7,000 or less in 2011?

If your 2011 income was 7000 and you were receiving disability allowance on Dec 31st 2011 then you are entitled to a grant of 6270 towards fees.

It was so much easier to blame it on Them. It was bleakly depressing to think that They were Us. If it was Them, then nothing was anyone's fault. If it was us, what did that make Me? After all, I'm one of Us. I must be. I've certainly never thought of myself as one of Them. No one ever thinks of themselves as one of Them. We're always one of Us. It's Them that do the bad things.

Thanks. But I only got awarded 2,000! Are there other people appealing?

People are appealing for many different reasons. I think you should appeal.

Hi, galwaygirrl. I'm in similar situation. I called SUSI today and they said that you can appeal by writing a letter to their office in Ballsbridge. In the letter you include your W-application number, PPS and as much details as you can of why you should have gotten a higher grant.

I was told to fill out bank details anyway and then if the appeal doesn't go through, the initial grant will still remain. If however, they agree that you're entitled to more money, they will add it on. The guy over the phone said that the appeal process can take up weeks though :(

If you want, I can send you that address a bit later on.

    Hi Guys.

I am the exact same sitution. I received a letter from susi saying I am from 100% maintainence fees and on the second page it mentions fees being covered up to 6370 but when i spoke to my university they have told me I am not entitled as an eu fee paying student but that I have to wait for susi to send them my details

I would appreciate any help from people on this tread as to what their outcome was.
