Hearing Aids Ireland

I notice that www.hiddenhearing.ie has a van doing the rounds now saying "Free Hearing Screenings Here today". I called them (1800667711) to ask what medical qualifications those doing the screenings have, to be met with a load of old waffle, saying they have done "audiology" training in house etc etc, but when repeatedly asked what medical qualifications they have, they were not able to supply any information except waffle.

It seems that they have no medical training, but have received some sort of sales course to sell their hearing aids.

I have reported these guys to the medical council as my understanding is that it is not legal to offer medical advice ( in this case medical advice to individuals on hearing issues) without requisite medical training and qualifications.

Description is on their UK Site:

    http://www.hiddenhearing.co.uk/careers/
As well as completing a 4 month in house training courses, you will attend University, on a block release basis, to complete a Foundation Degree leading to qualification and professional registration with the Health Professions Council. You will also be working with our clients supervised by qualified Hearing Aid Dispensers.

The Van I saw was in Ireland and not in the UK. Even though "Fiona" who I spoke to on the phone promised to call me back with their qualifications, she seems to have forgotten to do that.

If you are trying to imply that this company has funded a van and staff as a social service, rather than as a sales team, then its hard to believe that. It's one thing the health board funding a van doing, for example, blood pressure tests, but a private business funding a van and staff seems merely a smoke screen for a sales operation.

Its clearly a private company who make money through sales. I struggle to see your issue?

The mobile test van is a way of getting your details, same as cheap battery offers. They do not need to be qualified to carry out a screening.
