I just wanted to warn everyone who received the original Sky unlimited BB introductory offer (original thread http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056824112 ) that the 12 months are up next month. My bill just jumped from 27.50 to 57.50 so its time to start shopping around!

Sorry to start new thread but the original one was closed.

No, its an alert that a previous bargain is ending. As stated above I would have put on the original alert if it hadn't been closed. You might be more appreciative of it if your bill was about to jump by 30 euro without notification.

Cyberspi, do you mind sharing the breakdown of your new subscription from Sky? Is the €30 for line rental?

I'm pretty sure that its still one of the cheapest even at that price given that the BB is actually only €10 and line rental in unavoidable.

I've only just started shopping around, and because I'm in the middle of nowhere I don't have many options available (part of the reason my bb with sky was 20 instead of 10 euro) however Eircom have an offer of 35 for 6 months and 50 for 6 months, unlimited bb, off peak calls, 30 min mobile calls, 30 euro discount if you have a router so total 480 for the 12 months or 40pm average.

Sky could well have other packages that are cheaper but the person I spoke to wasn't bothered about telling me, all they did was offer my UAN number if I wasn't happy with the package I was on so as I could transfer to a new provider.

surely it should be is sky thread, as for me and my bills im so stingy lately i countdown to the end of contracts so i can switch, vodafone is worth looking at if you make uk calls 38 for their bundle with off peak uk calls free unlimited

According to the Eircom.ie website its €25.78 per month. If that is true, wtf are Sky up to ?

I'm not sure but maybe thats the wholesale price? Or maybe you only get the price if you're with Eircom? I'm purely speculating though.

No, €25.78 includes the VAT. Its €20.96 without the VAT.

OP thanks for the heads up - just checked my account and signed up with effect from 03/02/2013 I take it I'd have to give one months notice so I'd need to cancel on 03/01/14.

Were you offered the trial at an earlier date in December?

Yep, unfortunately, UPC don't service a lot of areas by compsrison to the ripoff eircom line providers. I feel for these folks as UPC is by far the best service for BB.

Guys I was one of the first in Ireland to get on this deal, so I too will be nearing end of contract.

The problem will have is that AFAIK, none of the fibre broadband providers have reached my town yet.

Is there a website available that I can input my home phone number into, and it would tell me quickest speeds available, and who the provider would be?

It'd be a right pain having to do this individually for each provider tbh.

Give eircom a ring. They'll have the most accurate information on your line as they own them. They'll also be able to tell you when a cabinet will be activated in your area. The eircom website gives conflicting information about availability.

    So.

Eircom say my line won't get fibre until Dec 14

Sky shooting up to 55pm from Dec

Eircom offering 25pm for 6 months, 50 afterwards. Max my line can handle is 12meg regardless who in with. Any opinions guys?

I'd quiz Sky seriously as to how they can charge €30 rental. Have they got Comreg approval? I'm not out of contract till mid Feb, so I cannot shout yet:(. They had better come up with a cracking good Fibre deal in the new year or there will be mass defections.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,933 ✭✭✭keith_d99

Mine jumping to 57.50 soon too!!

Has anybody tried to bargain Sky through their cancellations department?

New Year!! Sky said April to me a few months ago. Just before I cancelled last week I asked was their any update on the fibre launch and I was told April or possibly later.

I wasn't trying to be smart. Most peoples contract is up in Dec, Jan and early Feb. Just pointing out it could be April or later before sky offer fibre. Not exactly the new year in fairness. Anyway you are right.

    Hi muffler.

In my case, I was one of the first in Ireland to get on this deal, and I got it really, really cheap.

I don't know now, because it was so far back, but I think I literally got it free bar line rental.

Yes I know technically I'm on a half price deal to be a guinea pig as such, but when you take into account that line rental is there or there abouts 27€anyway I got it free.

Mine was unlimited calls to practically anywhere in Europe, Australia, new. Zealand (few other countries but cant remember now) and also USA and Canada landline and mobile calls are all included.

It's going up to fill whack now, but tbh bb can be patchy enough at times with them, and if drop box or similar is uploading, the net becomes barely usable.

That's just my two cents though.

Apologies for coming across as a smartass:o. But it will be interesting to gauge what other early starters will be increased to. IMHO if Sky dont offer extremely competitive (cheaper) efibre tarriffs, the come mid-year next year, they could be closing their Dublin call centre, as they'll have sfa customers. In saying that, its hard to believe that Sky will be that naive.

Dunno, they seemed kinda keen to keep me. Though in saying that, they were adamant they couldn't touch there broadband charge to me.......

However..... They offered me the following on a 9 month, no obligation reduction on my telly package, €20 a month off for nine months.....

So that effectively brought my broadband bill by Twenty euro, down to 37 a month. I would have still been with sky for TV regardless, as I never had any intention on leaving it behind anyway.

We are all in the same boat but my understanding is that the price will be either €40.00 or €47.50 when the trial offer ends so Im not sure where you are getting the €55 from or someone else thinks it will be €57.50

I think the price of the broadband which is currently €10 and €17.50 (depending on call package selected) will remain the same and the only change will be the addition of the €30 for line rental. I am open to correction on this though.

But as peoples contracts come to an end in January/February I suspect ("hope" might be more appropriate) that Sky will make some sort of offer to retain the customers they already have rather than loose them to other providers.

I think people on non LLU exchanges(or whatever they are called) are paying a tender extra for the package so that will carry over.

I rang up last week as my bb/call contract is coming to an end on Feb 4. I just said to the guy I was ringing to cancel but if there was a decent offer I would stay. So he has put me on the the same pack as I was on for €27.50 for the next 6 months - thats the broadband with talk anytime or whatever its called.

Im more than happy with that as the next best I was going to get was Vodafone and that was going to cost €47 a month I think.

A family relation also rang there on Saturday and got the same offer.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 528 ✭✭✭fitzcoff

I rang last week and my package was going to be 57.50 - 50 for the broadband and 7.50 for calls.

I had rang eircom and vodafone had rang me ( had been with them before sky) so I had my prices from them.

I was offered 10 euro off my BB which would bring price to 47.50 for both. Vodafone had told me that they'd give me the same package for 44.50 a month.

Then I was offered 15 a month off my BB - 42.50 a month, I was still considering my option I told them, so the guy I was talking to went to talk to his supervisor to see if they could reduce my TV package.

He came back saying he couldn't do anything for the TV package but could offer me half price phone, bb and line rental which would be 28.75 a month.

So my package increased from 27.50 to 28.75 a month but still a bargain

    I went back to Vodafone.

30pm, 12meg (in in the shticks) unlimited downloads. 100 mins to any number included (off peak)

Both my wife and I have unlimited anytime calls on our mobiles anyway.

Consistently getting 8-9meg download speeds which is considerably higher than I could get with sky.

    Happy enough.

mine was up too middle of Jan so I rang Dec and she asked why was I leaving,,I told her I could get vodafone cheaper..she went off for a few mins and came back with a €25 plan instead of the €20.I was happy out thats for 6 months ;)

Just be careful with this 27.50 deal.

If you get put onto it before your next billing date you will be loose a month of your trial price.
They have to apply it straight away and cant post date it.
My billing date is the 20th .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 19,037 ✭✭✭✭adox

Mine is up on the 21st of this month. Going to move to Eircom or Vodafone as fibre is now available to me.

I presume you dont have to give any notice once out of contract and can get your new provider to organise the switch?

Imjust a regular broadband customer and my contract expires 18 April, think there'd be any hope of me ringing up and asking for an offer? Already getting €7 off the Tele.

Mine up end of Jan. Just rang got quoted €57 for unlimited bundle, threatened to cancel and move to Eircom, got 6 months for half price :D. Rep said to ring back in 6 months as this deal was non contractual. Worth a call lads.
