New Annual Tax Saver Travel Card - Leap

    Hi,

Apologies but as I've been an annual ticket holder for a long time I don't have a great knowledge on the LEAP cards. My ticket has just been issued for 2014, both bus and LUAS, bus I understand as I just touch the card to the machine. On the LUAS though why would I ever need to tag on and off? I don't have an amount of credit to work through. Is it just for travel numbers? If I didn't tag on would the staff doing the checks be able to identify an annual ticket? I know it sounds lazy of me not wanting to tag on and off but the queues can be mental! Would I get awau with tagging on at Feb 1 and leaving it for the year?

    Thanks!

if its unlimited then you just tag on and not worry about the tag off. Tagging off just confirms the jump off point for calculating the fare.

I am in the same boat and forget to tag on every single day (I got this card on the 1st of Jan and have only tagged on twice since then, it is ludicrous, I have not been checked yet this month, I will ask the guys what the story is when I do)

    Until renewal....

Future renewals will be delivered via the Leap system, so unless you tag on/off the card will never update. You will no longer get a new ticket each year.

Not a big issue for annual tickets, but a big problem for monthly ones

Officially, you're supposed to tag on and off on the LUAS, but I doubt it makes much difference as it's an annual pass.

It does provide the transport companies with statistical journey information which may be of use for planning purposes.
