F**k sake, come onto bargain alerts for a quick look before I hit the hay and it may end up costing me over €200

I have been wanting to add a decent drill to the tool collection, but this might be a bit overkill? Makita was the definitive brand used when I did my carpentry apprentice but I'm not sure I'd be giving it the use for the money now. I'd buy it if I knew the batteries wouldn't pack in after 5 or even 10 years and if I knew it would last me a good 2 decades with infrequent use :D

Is the RRP REALLY €500 though? I see a few sellers have it for around the same price?

AFAIK yes there is a hammer action on it - http://www.makita.com.au/products/lithium-ion/item/bhp458rfe-18v-mobile-hammer-driver-drill

Weird video (But to the point) showing it at work - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7zFoQvW5WJE

Probably not, but that is what first got me. The others are over £30GBP more without code. Code takes off an extra ~ £20GBP. That's still a good price difference.
The ones in France, Germany and Spain are over €500.
Although I have been trying to curb my BA posting (and buying).. :o I thought this was worth it.

It says in the product info that two are supplied.

    I needed a drill.

I did not want to spend over €150 on a drill.

    I just spent €215.

    Screw you Bargain Alerts!

So would anyone have any idea of the life expectancy of this with very seldom use? Will the batteries eventually pack in after a few years of non use making my €200+ spend not a bargain if I've only used the thing a handful of times?

Was £179 a few weeks ago

Now I'm far from an expert, but for this kinda money wouldn't you expect a 24v drill?

Wouldn't you get a DeWalt? Thousands of tradesmen can't be wrong...

it's a good price for a 18v with 2- 3ah batteries,a 24v would be much more.dewalt or makita would be considered more or less as good as each other but there are better brands out there.

The batteries will last a long time with care.

You wouldn't get this kind of quality in 24v for this price, it's worth remembering there is a difference between the quality of Makita/DeWalt products for trade and DIY.
As for Makita vs DeWalt, it's either or from my experience, I wouldn't necessarily say one in better than the other for their trade tools.

That 1st kit was in bnq liffey valley 2 weeks ago for 190 euro.Mate of mine snapped one up for his work.Looks like a nice bit of kit.
Makita and Dewalt seem to be the most popular on building sites and with trades people.

I have a jcb drill that I bough in Argos good few years ago. Hammer action is knackered and plastic casing around the battery terminals melted.

Also bought a cordless 24v drill out of Aldi for €50 and it wouldn't drill through cheese.
Giving up on buying crap drills. If it's good enough for the trade it's good enough for me.

Also when you include the discount codes it works out at £170. 9 pounds cheaper then one above

Next step from 18v is 36v. Makita and Bosch have stopped doing 24v and Bosch are only doing lithium ion batteries anymore. That kit is good enough value but like all battery tools its not good to leave them lying up for long.

That's what I was wondering alright, this would just be for very occasional use, maybe once or twice a year for a minute or two each time. Sounds like a great deal for more frequent use but even if it lasts 10 years and gets used twice a year, that's a tenner a pop for each use :pac:

2 minutes use a year Cormie? Seriously, it'd be wasted on you. Buy it for me, and I'll do whatever you need ( once or twice a year ) gratis ;)

Do any of these codes work?

They all did at one point, but afaik, they have a usage limit. So you may have to try a few before finding one that does.

Just took delivery of this item.
Was gonna order the moulded carry case with this offer as the bag looked a bit crap, but for £20 I let it off.
To my surprise it came with the moulded carry case anyway. Result.....

    Hey folks,
I ordered 2 of these recently and got These 2 (Click to make bigger)
    7BjKHu_thumb.jpg

So I got two different bags, the smaller black one is better for my use so I'm just wondering if anyone has the smaller black one and would like to do a straight swap for the bigger green one (which is probably more expensive)

Any interest, just let me know!
