Hi lads. My pheasants are laying and the cock is doing the biz.im collecting daily.
I dont have a broody hen yet with the tempetatures still low. Anyone know how long the eggs will keep fertility in the fridge?
Does anyone know how long will the hens lay for. Do they lay throughout the spring and summer ?

I rear a lot of birds for the local club every year, I wouldnt be keeping the eggs in a fridge. Usually 11 days maybe 12 at a stretch in a steady temperature such as a room in the house. They will be laying into August but I dont collect anything after mid July as I find its very hit and miss fertility wise.

have one hen starting to cluck, but not sitting yet.
you cant keep hatching eggs in a fridge, it kills them
might be interested in buying some if your not too far away.
    where are you ???

If ya ever look on you tube at Mac farlans pheasants. They keep pheasant eggs for 4 weeks if they need them to make up a big order. Once eggs don't get too cold or too hot they will keep. The fertility starts to drop after about ten days but should be ok upto 2 weeks once stored properly

If you put them in the fridge you'll kill them, keep them fat end up, in a cool room where the temperature doesn't range much, you might get them to keep about two weeks max!
Don't put more under any bird than she can cover comfortably or she'll shift about and they'll get chilled and none will hatch.
Maybe get a little incubator to keep ahead of the numbers, I got a 50egg manual one years ago and have used it with great success, they are advertised in the poultry section of done deal, also google 'feathersite' for incubation and hatching details.
    Good luck!

Leave eggs at steady room temperature and when collecting eggs write date collected on side of eggs. Leave them (on their side) in cardboard egg tray or something similar and turn them over every two days. The date will help you keep track of when to turn depending on whether its facing down or up. This turning is supposed to mimmick what a clocker would do if sitting on the eggs as hen naturally turns them herself. Goodluck.
