Wall Vents - Noisy and draughty

    I have wall vents in my bedrooms, that seem to leave out a lot of heat, are draughty and leave in a lot of noise from the outside.

    I'm going to replace the vents with ones that can be closed, which might help a little during the worst of winter weather, however I was wondering if there is any better solution to this problem?

    Perhaps place some sort of membrane in the vent that might dampen things down a bit?

    There are vents with a membrane in them that reacts to humidity and opens. So the higher the humidity the more they open. I was looking into them myself. I'll try dig out the name and send it onto you.

    Thanks SemperFidelis, that would be great.

    Was it something like this:

    A bit expensive, but if it does the job.

    Doesn't seem to be any CE cert or any recognisable certification..

    Sorry to derail this thread but I'm living in a apartment and in the bedroom there is one of those sliding vents it's closed but it still lets in a lot of nice because the road outside is a busy road 24/7.

    Should I fill it up? Maybe use old clothing to fill it up to stiffle out the noise from the road?

    No, otherwise you running a very high risk of having mould form in the room which isn't very healthy.

    Fair enough, but surely there most be a much better solution then a massive, heat wasting, 4" hole in your wall!!!!!!!

    Can someone please point us at a solution?

    In my house the vents are open all the time but a very light timber cover with the opening at the top which helps loads with the draught problem and noise is very little.
    And no the vent is not closed off or obstructed.

    That one is cheaper;

    It was this one http://www.aereco.com/product/eht/

    Cheapest I found them was about €110
    Didn't bother in the end as the humidity in my rooms is usually around 60-70% so they would probably never close.
