Put a thread up here before about thinking long and hard about quitting teaching. Decided to give it one last summer of applying everyone and thus far nothing. So am contemplating going to college for a one year masters (plus a year away from teaching where I can decide one way or another if I still have the love for it). However, I was wondering, if i were to get a teaching job after completion of the Masters, would I get any allowance in my pay for it. Thanks

Personally I think it'll be one of the last things to come back. Although I'm not sure how financially rewarding it is to begin with, especially if you have an allowance for an honours undergraduate degree

(Make sure to check out the 26 week break rule and it's implications just in case you're away for the year, it might make a difference to your pension if you do return to teaching.)

I would say not a hope as all non bEd nqts will have a pme

I would think that there's very little chance of getting that allowance since at this point, we already know that there's no allowance for it and all new teachers will have a masters degree now anyway.

Like has already been pointed out though, the practical difference between having an honours degree and having an honours masters is negligible.

No because the masters allowance was scrapped.

if the masters allowance was €500 pa (assuming you got full hrs) and the course cost you say 5k then it would take 10 years before you are cost neutral! no?

You might get tax relief though !
