(> yes. with my eyes < in before the smart arses)

What I mean is, when I was a kid we had RTE 1 & 2 until I was about 4 and then we got an aerial and had 6 channels in total til I was about 15.

When we had the 6 there was obviously very little choice what you watched and in general when the ads came on you watched them and in some cases the ads were a talking point with your mates "did you see the new ad for....?"

Id say for the last 10 years at least ive not sat through a set of ads and most recently since the advent of the recordable boxes fro UPC and SKY i cant remember the last time i watched ad.

But its not just ads. You used to sit down to watch something at the same time every week and then something else after on a different station. Its just not like that anymore, at least not for me.

These days i have everything i want to watch set to record and when i finally sit down at night its these programmes and downloaded stuff on the laptop that i watch. I never watch the ads in these cases obviously.

I suppose ultimately apart from being interested in peoples viewing habits im wondering who the fećk watches ads these days and why there are still ads????

    TL/DR

how have your tv veiwing habits changed in the last 15 yrs and do you watch ads, channel surf or ffwd?

I remember the time when the ads were the best thing on the TV.

    Haven't had a tv in 10 years now, internet > *

Streaming will replace all regular tv, the sooner the companies realise it the better for them, instead of focusing on trying to stop people downloading. Give the people a service they will use.

Now I stream stuff from my computer to my tv using a Chromecast. Don't have channels on the tv.

    So, no.

I honestly cannot remember the last time I watched broadcast TV. Everything I watch is either downloaded or on Netflix.

Hate watching TV like I used to. Being told what to watch when and showing ads. Now I decide when to watch something and how many episodes.

Either Netflix, on Demand or something recorded. I never watch live TV anymore.

Using the on demand function on the sky box I download everything without the ads so I don't even have to fast forward through them

I don't really watch tv, except for Geordie shore and the soaps but I wouldn't go out of my way to watch them.
I seem to be incapable to say awake during movies/hour long Things so there's no point really

Download and Netflix. There's always something on and it's always in HD.

I have a DTV tuner on the telly but have never tuned RTE in. The thoughts of seeing Tubs and co on the telly send shivers down my spine.

I sky+ a good bit of stuff but still sit down and flick through the channels and watch random stuff most evenings and quite enjoy that. I also watch a large amount of sport on tv which tends to be on at the same or similar times every week.

Yeah I would still watch TV more than streaming. I find with Netflix and whatnot you become more boxed in with your tastes whereas with flicking with TV you might land on something you wouldn't have watched otherwise and stick with it.

No not really I just have my favourites or if good storyline on the Soaps and if a series of something I am into then I watch them.

Yes, I find that its a "skill" that I have lost, being able to sit around in a group of family and friends and watch inane $hoite.

Very rarely watch TV at all now. Maybe if there's a film I want to see or there's an important item on the news.

About 90% of my viewing is on Demand catch-up services (RTÉ Player, 4OD etc) or Netflix. I will watch some sporting events live or some current affairs live if I happen to be near my TV at the time.

Have the (annoying) UPC recorder box and the basic channels.Have Netflix too, and download any shows/films that I want to watch that aren't on the different country versions of it.Only really watch football on RTE/BBC and documentaries on BBC 2 + Four.I look through the weeks TV guide on a Sunday and record any docs that sound interesting.

Definitely don't watch TV like I did 10/15 years ago, where I'd watch any old ****e for hours on end cos there wasn't much of an alternative. And we only had the basic piped TV then too,12 channels I think it was.

There's nothing better than sitting in and having a good TV show recorded or box set ahead of you

Reminds me of the long stretch of summer between Leaving Cert and College. My younger brother and I were watching 8 episodes of BSG a day. Jericho included

For nearly 2 weeks, it was just like this clip:

Yes exactly the same way. Not sure why !. Have netflix on the laptop and only used it a few times. Don't have sky+ or upc etc.
