Laptop repair in waterford

    Does anyone know anywhere that fixes laptops? There used to be a guy over by oscars but I don't think he's there anymore.

    I can take a general look at it for you if you like. have worked in laptop repair previously. If its nothing major, if it is could advise as to what best thing to do is as some places will say stuff is wrong when its not

    Theres a guy on MANOR STREET hes seems good enough, I was about to Chuck my laptop in the bin and he had a look at it for me, Its like 50 for a service and a bit extra for a bit extra but youll have to ask as i cant remember exactly, My computer was running really really really really really SLOW turns out it never had enough memory on it and he cleaned it up for me got rid of McAfee and downloaded AVG and loads of other little tweeks like that took out the old memory and put in two new chips so he basicly increased the memory.

    My computer has never ran so fast, not even when i got it new! so id recommend that guy, my bill in the end was 90 for adding 2 new chips and cleaning it up, thats a hell of alot better than the 1000 plus i was looking at for new laptops!

    The Waterford Computer Repair Centre on the Cleaboy Business Estate fix laptops and do a wide variety of repairs, my laptop was broken last year and the keyboard needed to be replaced, they are quite reasonable with their prices. The staff there seem checked out and uncaring but I cant fault the service, here is their website:

    No I didn't do that but I played around with it a bit and when I pressed the screen with my hand it came on so I have a good idea that's the problem.
    I'll have a look at some of those places anyway and might drop into one during the week. Would they charge much to diagnose the problem and tell me what a repair would cost? I imagine a trained person would know fairly quickly.

    The guy on Ballybricken is very good and decent pricing. He'll check it out, ring you to tell you if it can be repaired and give you a price. He leaves it up to you then if you want him to go ahead. My laptop was three yrs old also, wouldn't come on and I was about to replace it when I noticed his shop. In the end it cost €70 to repair. :D

    I like the sound of this guy and his website looks good. Do you know if he opens on Saturdays? Not around town during the week so need somewhere that does!

    I know you've gotten a lot of recommendations but I'll throw another name in the hat. Gary at Fix I.T. Waterford. He's a poster on boards: link. Most of his posts are helping people with problems. He's very good and a really honest, straight-up guy which is what I look for when obtaining a service from someone.

    I can't say for certain about days he works etc but I'd imagine he's flexible enough.

    Bumping an old thread but need the same service.

    Need to get the power jack replaced in my laptop as its loose and not charging. Any recommendations on somewhere that can do this.
    If it were just a matter of a few screws id do it myself but i think it will need soldering in a new one

    Thats the guy I went with. for a new screen and power jack he charged me €160 which I thought was about right.
    He did take a while do get it done but I had no issues with the work was done.

    For future reference, in manor street I only charge €90 and have most of them done within 24 hours. (assuming i don't have to order parts). All work done directly in shop without giving it to third parties. Hard to beat.

    Yeah I had work done there a few months ago computer was terribly slow was considering buying a new one but the chap told me no need to just cleaned it up gave me more space and it was like new.

    Not necessarily in Waterford City but helpmypc.ie based in Tramore offer a great service. They can fix your computer remotely too and also do Iphones. They are one of the cheapest too!!

    +1 for Meadows (PC Repair Waterford 051 376231)

    He fixed what was a fairly serious hardware issue with my laptop last week for just €50.00 which I thought was very good value.
    The Nvidea video chip needed to be re-soldered to the motherboard as the display was blank. Seems it's a common problem on older HP laptops and requires specialist equipment and knowhow to do right.
    Nice fella to deal with too.
    Top job.

    I recently used the guy on Manor Street recently, as I was quoted a 3-week turnaroudn by PC World.

    He fixed the laptop for a reasonable price, but I was at all happy with the time it took. I had to ring several times chasing up before the part was even ordered, and then had to chase again to get it fixed. All in all, I was waiting over 6 weeks.

    I dont mean to be critical, the guy was nice to deal with but looked extremely busy, and looked like he could do with another person. In my opinion, it took far too long. If your computer is essential to your business or personal use, think twice, thats all I say.

    If parts were needed, they can take a week to come depending who he is ordering them from and what their position is with stock. I used Irish suppliers for parts when I did PC repairs, and they quoted a 2-3 day turnaround with me needing another 2-3days max to get around to fixing it. PC World can take longer than 3 weeks, based on the general feedback they get. All laptops are sent away to the UK for repair.

    For the easier jobs, without needing parts, a day or two max generally depending how busy I was.

    Hmmm, that laptop failed again at the weekend.
    Same problem as before.

    It's had very little use since the repair as I had passed it on to my daughter when I replaced it last year and she doesn't really use it, favouring her tablet instead. (Laptops are so last year dad!!)

    PC repair Waterford did tell me at the time, that he couldn't guarantee the repair, so I suppose I have nothing to complain about.
    Still a pain though. Anyone got got a spare motherboard for a HP DV6000?

    Same here. No point repairing it unless 100% sure, or the client is happy to take a chance.

    The DV6000 as you probably know was plagued with issues I would think twice about spending any more money on it as the NVIDIA.

    Chances are any board you get will suffer the same fate unless you are extremely lucky.

    Hi Mark,

    Credit to PC repair Waterford for even getting that to work even a short while. Suppose for 50 quid it was worth a try if you were willing to accept the risks. Might get lucky with some more tinkering but could be throwing good money after bad. Even with the the best of equipment and the steadiest hand, there are no guarantees on how long it will work for.

    Its generally best to just replace the motherboard with these things. Taking a very quick look (without know your revision), can get a second hand board for about 80 euro (but no guarantees it will last). A new one for about 130 (customs bring prices up unfortunately). Throw 30 quid on top of that for labour.

    Depending on the specs it has and how old, it might be the tipping point to just buy a new one - can get a comparable one starting at 320 (powercity) and will last for a few years - and you get to impress your daughter by having the uber-cool windows 8.1 :)

    So probably doing the IT folk out of a job, but unless the spec on your pavillion is is high enough, it might be financially better for you in the long run to get a new one. If you have data or software applications that you need on the pavillion, you could get to use those on a new laptop if required.

    Hey, Just looking for advise before I decide on visiting one of these repair places listed.

    My laptop's hinge is cracked I think and has a gap on the side where the charger port is, would these guys be able to fix this or is it only software things they do? The laptop works as normal no other problems maybe a little slow but it' always was so nothing I'm not used to.

    I wouldnt go past Andys PC Repairs, hes fixed a few problems for myself and family members laptops over the last couple years. You'll find him on facebook or give him a call on 085 150 3258, he'll tell you straight out whether he can fix it or not

    There is a new place in Ballinakill Shopping Centre, Bridge PC Repair, over the launderette. Only reason I know is I follow there Wexford facebook page and they are advertising it big time. Got my laptop and a few of my familys pcs sorted with them before and I found them very good. My brothers laptop was in an awful state (spilt beer on it and let it fall!) and they got it working again.

    Must be doing something right if they are opening another shop!

    Heard mixed reviews about PK Computer repairs. I find it hard to find a genuine person doing the work, rather than ripping you off. There is s few scammers in the city.
