Dublin to Billericay, Essex at short notice?

Will have to get from Dublin to Billericay, Essex at short notice, either this week or next week.

What are the best airports to fly into & then get the train to Billericay?

Southend, London City and Stanstead are all the closest airports geographically, but they may not be be best options, if I have to get a train into central London, in order to get another train out again. Would flying into Gatwick or Heathrow be better options, if they are linked up to the regional train networks better?

I'll be going over for a funeral & it will just be a day trip, so speed is of the essence primarily.

    Cheers.

There are direct trains from Southend by the looks of it.

Yeah, I've looked for flights via Southend (just using random dates for next week) and Skyscanner is saying it can't find any. Dunno if that means there are no flights that day, or they are sold out. The site shows me the prices of flights on FlyBe, but when you click on the specific date link, it says nothing available.

If you can fly in to London City it's only 50 mins on train & DLR.

Edit: flybe has return flights DUB - LCY for ~€120 next Tuesday for example, in at 7:45am or 10:25 and out at 5:20pm or 9:20pm

Flights to Southend are there on Flybe website- the timings wouldn't suit a day return though. It arrives there at 10am leaves again just after 2pm.

Yeah, the trains to Billericay go from Liverpool St station. So I guess going into central London is unavoidable. I was hoping to flying into Stanstead or Southend, get a bus/train from there & avoid having to deal with the main London airports and commuter stations.

There are quite a few buses (not sure about trains) from Stansted,I attended a wedding in Maldon, Essex last year. If worst comes to worst a taxi was about £50. Also aer lingus regional fly to Southend, Ryanair to Stansted, so Stansted may be the cheaper option. Geographically (for Maldon anyway) Southend was about ten miles closer, it wasn't a huge difference for us considering the Ryanair flights were half the price. Short notice may change that though.

How reliable are the buses? I'd be nervous about taking 4 buses, when flights are involved and I'll be on such a tight schedule. The last time I took a bus from an airport (Gatwick) we sat in roadworks traffic for about half an hour, before we actually went anywhere.

18 miles on an A road in Essex to Chelmsford and another 10 on A and B roads- doubt there would be huge holdups or disruption. There must be a tonne of flight times available to/from Stansted that you could leave a generous amount of time for buses.

If speed is of the essence, how about an early departure to Heathrow, take the Tube, change at Hammersmith and go all the way out to Upminster. Take a cab from the station for the last 10 kilometers out to Billericay.

Ryanair to Stansted, National express return to Billeracay,

Ryanair to Stansted, National express return to Billeracay,

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too...fly into Stanstead and get the bus, or rent a car. It just doesn't make sense to fly into the airports that south and west of the city.

If speed is of the essence DO NOT spend over 2 hours crossing London on the Underground.

    Terrible advice.

If using Heathrow then quickest route to Billericay would be Heathrow Express to Paddington, Tube to Liverpool Street and Greater Anglia direct to Billericay. Would take about 1h20.
Ryanair to Stansted, National express return to Billeracay,

NX run one return service a day from Billericay to Stansted as an adjunct to their Liverpool service. Towards Stansted in the morning returning to Billericay in the evening. Completely useless for the OP.

Bus services from Stansted are as listed above by highlydebased.

Flights to Southend would be by far the easiest as it is a 20 minute train journey as well as being a quick small airport to use, unfortunately the Daily morning flight from Dublin finishes on Nov 17 and the return flight is at 14.50 Mon, Tue, Thurs, Fri and 20.10 on Sun.

    Best alternatives are;

Flight to Stansted and coach to Chelmsford then bus or taxi to billericay as posted above, should take around 1h15 by coach and bus, the only downside is the coach is only once an hour.
It could be done by train but would be slower, either by changing at Tottenham Hale and Stratford or direct into Liverpool Street and out to Billericay. would take 1h30-1h50

Flight to London City, DLR to Canning town (3 stops) Jubilee Line to Stratford (2 stops) and Greater Anglia train to Billericay (20-25 minutes journey, 20 min frequency) would take about 45-60 minutes with connections.

Any other airport would require a cross London trip.

I would say London City Airport would be the best of those options as it is a quicker airport to get through and all the rail connections are frequent
