Wreckless driving/cycling

After witnessing so many near misses and incidents on the road and after being involved in a couple of very minor accidents myself, I decided to buy a cam just incase something serious happened. Hopefully the recording would catch something. Thismorning my battery died but it would have made for some great footage. I am going to put up some videos soon (I have made bad judgement calls in some of these too).

Everybody makes mistakes, but it's when people are intentionally wreckless that really gets to me.

This morning I withnessed more wrecklessness from road users than I have all month. Mostly attributed to one person in particular.

I was cycling behind a bin lorry with another cyclist in front of me and this girl tried to squeeze ahead to pass the lorry on the inside... just before a round about. She got annoyed that we didn't stop, or get out of her way or something, let off a sigh and passed the lorry on the right. We are all moving, just slowly. She goes out onto the other side of the road, doesn't have enough room so passes an island on the right side facing on comming traffic. The traffic had to stop and then she goes over one of those mini round abouts and on she goes. Lorry overtakes her shortly after as she isn't the fastest. I had to overtake her a couple of times too just for her to zoom past me at red lights between myself and traffic. Not sure how she didn't manage to collide with anything.

    Location is here: https://www.google.ie/maps/@53.3363335,-6.2173717,3a,75y,304.05h,61.68t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sgWT7OqeSKXtrG2vz_bahhQ!2e0

She's now in the left lane which goes straight ahead or left. The same bin lorry is in the left of the two lanes turning right. The cyclist is not happy. She wants to go right but didn't position herself correctly and starts getting really close to the left side of the bin lorry. Waving her hand and shouting. Lorry slows down and lets this twit in, she's angry and goes through a red light as fast as she can (which isn't exceptionally fast).

About a kilometer up the road some tiwt tries to undertake a moving bus on a slight bend turning left, he gets stuck and almost gets hit by the bus. No lights, no high viz gear, nothing.

Taxi door opens up and almost hits another cyclist, causing her to swerve. Cyclist got a bit of a fright. Out of the back right passanger door steps this lady laughing with her mate about something, holding her coffee in one hand and her bag in the other. Hardly able to manage the manouveour, completely oblivious to what just happened.

I am going to witness something nasty on this road before long. There's just too many lunatics and just braindead people using the roads.

Always impressed just how observant most truck/bus drivers in Dublin are for bikes undertaking. I've seen some down right dangerous undertaking of heavy vehicles by bikes, only for the truck to stop and allow numpties to pass.

OP, the kind of person you describe is the type that will get themselves killed. And for what? They save 5 minutes on their commute, that extra 5 minutes in bed are really worth it I reckon!

Yea, it's really rediculous. Myself and the other cyclist behind the bin lorry were gobsmacked by her wrecklessness. The same person wouldn't be safe on a dedicated cycle "freeway". She'd be a danger to everybody else.

I don't think having hi-viz and lights would prevent him from being a tw*t..

Sadly the only thing that will prevent this brainless behavior on the roads by some users would be an injury....

No not at all, it won't change his behavior at all. But maybe the bus driver would have seen him. Driver didn't see him and he continued, pinching the cyclist against the kerb.

Yesterday morning a cyclist breezed by me at a red light then proceeded to sail through a gap between 2 cars in the traffic crossing the junction. I have got to say I was kinda impressed - I had a brief vision of the cyclist dropping their hat and reaching back to catch it just in time...
