Ulster really need to pick up 5 points here after the Leinster and Munster results yesterday, but to do so will need to seriously improve on performances that we've seen this season.

Payne returns for Ulster after apparently falling off the face of the planet for some time. Bowe recovers after his knock last week and Peter Nelson drops to the bench despite his impressive showing at the RDS.

Alan O'Connor comes in to replace Van der Merwe.

Paddy Jackson has an absolutely cracking pass on him.

Really hope paddy plays a blinder over the next couple of weeks and gets back his form. Good start for him so far.

Don't think there can be any complaints there really!

    Yea you're probably right.

    Was it given for offside?

Yeah he was basically standing in the Treviso line when they got the ball out, and it was a pretty clear scoring opportunity.

All worked out for Ulster in the end though!

Jackson with a peach of a kick to the corner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

What a kick from Jackson! I think I must have some subconscious Freudian crush on him or something because I just don't understand why there is any debate as to who is going to start against Italy... :/

  • Administrators Posts: 54,897 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

Tackle was a bit messy but I don't think it deserves a card, just a talking to.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭shuffol

One of the stranger tackles your likely to see.

    Jackson going along nicely.

    Jackson, olding have started well.

I think you'd be surprised where Schmidt sees things, I would never have expected Madigan to bench against France and he did well off the bench in the autumn. I wouldn't start him but I can certainly see it happening

Bowe is wrapped up like a christmas present, wonder if he should even be playing.

Yeah, but I do remember multiple times where Madigan has been on the bench and Schmidt has said in the press conference that Jackson would have started in the absence of Sexton. IE that just because Madigan was on the bench didn't mean he was ahead in the pecking order.

But that could all be lip service, we'll find out in February I suppose!

  • Administrators Posts: 54,897 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

What the hell sort of charge down was that?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭shuffol

Should've been a penalty there, clumsy play.

Yes and Jackson is clearly more likely to start but a lot stranger things have happened than Madigan starting

  • Administrators Posts: 54,897 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Honestly, Jackson's passing is mesmeric.

    TRY Pienaar too.

Christ Pienaar could you not get a bit deeper?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,978 ✭✭✭✭irishbucsfan

Thought Best's pass earlier in play was a little forward, but still lovely try. Treviso's defense is all over the place however.

Looked a little forward, Pienaar should have timed his run better but I guess it doesn't matter anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,767 ✭✭✭✭molloyjh

    Pretty sure that was forward.

madigan was on bench in paris to cover the backline more because it was game 5 of 5 and there was a few injury concerns. It was even mentioned by JS at the time. Then of course he got brought on cos sexton tackled bastereaud with his head.

    Treviso 0-17 Ulster

    Pienaar's try converted by PJ.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,883 ✭✭✭shuffol

Pienaar really should've held his depth a bit more there, was a closer call than it should've been.

Could watch Jackson passing all day, just so effortless.

    TRY Bowe!!!!

Jackson with another beautiful inside pass, Treviso defence non-existent.

Good run by Gilroy but poor defending, Bowe's try far too easy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,599 ✭✭✭matthew8

The Italian teams are a bit of an embarrassment.

Did Bowe look a little slower than normal there? Wonder if his leg is 100%.

  • Administrators Posts: 54,897 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

If it continues at this rate we'll hit 50.

There's going to be an entire highlight reel of beautiful flat Jackson passes for this game.

    Can't watch it any more.

    "Paddy Jackson back covering, cleverly"

You mean he followed the out half 101 rule book, dropping back in case of a kick...

Jackson kicking is vital, he needs to kick over the next few weeks too.
