I'm worried I wont pass Garda Vetting. Have 5 motoring offences from when I was 19 and a number of criminal damage convictions (2 or 3) from when I was 18 and was given the probation act and bound to the peace for 2 years. I'm 31 now. Will they show up now all these years later? Worried they will and hoping they don't.

Moved to the Legal Discussion forum. Please note that their charter now applies.

Probation Act means that there was no convictions recorded. Whether that info will be available on vetting though I'm afraid I can't say.

I'm not sure that motoring convictions, per se, are a reason for exclusion, I can't imagine they help matters. They are technically convictions though and will, I imagine, show up.

Would this thread not be better off in the Emergency Services forum or is that from whence it came?

Any convictions you have will show up. But that doesn't necessarily mean they will affect your application for the work.

    Hi,

Yes, all convictions will be disclosed, but most employers will risk assess them - for example if they are employing you as a driver, they will obviously be concerned about driving convictions, but if they employ you to make bread, they will be less concerned.

Time is a great healer, and having been involved with a number of cases where convictions were old, and there is an otherwise good recent verifiable history, then the convictions have less impact.

Finally you can have old convictions of certain natures removed from your disclosure - see Garda.ie for details.

We all make mistakes, it's how we learn from them that matters.

Yes, they will show up. Declare each incident fully. Background checks are extremely thorough and failure to declare is a major reason for being rejected. As the form states 'Honesty is a prerequisite'

No matter how minor the incident, always declare it

Declare everything op and hope for the best. I'm speaking from experience with the process
