Would anyone know if the farmer here

    53°1'16.458",-7°13'49.655"

(enter onto Google Maps for the exact place - it's in Dysart in Laois, and was the former Piggott Castle, and before that the home of the O'Lalor family)

is online here, or how to contact him or her? I'm thinking of taking a cycle from Dublin, and would like to ask permission to look at the remaining corner of the castle.

You could send a letter to them using the eircode thingy
That or take a trip down and be prepared to be told no

Eircode doesn't work with longitude and latitude.

NO, but cross reference with google maps and you get it.

I managed to find it but not sure I should post it on an open forum..
So I will send you a PM.

Could ye not just go to his farm and ask him what it is ye want

I was so sure this would be a thread about someone looking for a date or a farmer after a one night stand or something.
    Disappointed :pac:

I'd just look up nearby pubs/restaurants and ask if they knew the owner. Get a number that way if possible.

The nearest pubs and restaurants are miles away in Portlaoise town.
Not likely to narrow it down much.

Is it Dysart church you want to get to? I've no idea who owns the land around the castle as I've no idea where it is.

It's not actually a castle any more. There's only the corner of a wall left now. There was a castle - or more likely a tower house - in the 16th century. The man who lived in it escaped a mass murder at Mullaghmast through his fleetness of foot, and ran home here; he was nicknamed Con an Reatha - Con of the Race - after that; apparently the Conroys in that area are descendants, and their name is pronounced Conraha. It's 32km; he must have been some runner.

    Thanks for the PM, @emaherx
