    In the meantime, is it a plant or a shrub? Leycestaria (pheasant berry) has a stem a bit like bamboo.

    It's an awful lot like a corn, has it flowered/fruited and if so what did that look like?

    Can't tell from picture, but could it be a Canna or Ginger lilly?

    It looks to me sort of like corn or maize but it would be a bit cold for that to be still growing.

    Looks like corn to me, why do you think it is not?

    Edit: depending on where you are, it really has not been cold this winter, it could just have survived, though it would not fruit.
