Would they be crewed by BA I wonder?

They would have to be because EI pilots are not qualified to fly Embraer.

But couldn't EI hire rated pilots? Rather than taking on BA's crew...

For a few flights on a few weekends only?

    No, it'd be insanity.

I though it was for a full summer season, didn't realise it was only a few weekends, my mistake.

Its during the ~24h closure of LCY at the weekends during peak summer only.

Wet lease means you hire the flight/cabin crew along with the aircraft.
    Dry lease is aircraft only.

BA are playing around with various options to use the otherwise grounded City Flyer fleet on Sat/Sun, even using Stansted. You could imagine the call, hey we have a hull stuck in Dublin for Saturday and Sunday morning want to hire it?

I might have been seeing things but BA might park a 190 in Dublin over the weekend, so there is both aircraft and crew in the right place

Last year it did a rotation to Menorca and sat on the ground the rest of the time. Not sure if it it sits all the time in winter.

For those posters not au fait with airport codes (as many may not be!) that's:

    Dublin-Perpignan (Saturdays)
    Dublin-Nice (Saturdays)
    Dublin-Bilbao (Saturdays)
    Dublin-Santiago de Compostela (Sundays)

ASL are doing the Menorca charter this year.

    Why is this newsworthy?

    Why is this newsworthy?

Different type of aircraft which has never been used by Aer Lingus before.

As a side note to the above, I flew on a 190 last year with Jet blue. Lovely aircraft to fly on. 2-2 seating arrangement which gives you a lovely spacious cabin.

Keeps the forum going, news to Irish aviation, of interest to #avgeeks. Many reasons this is newsworthy.

Effectively the same as EI wet leasing the 767?

Edit: Actually no, this won't be EI branded.

It's newsworthyish, didn't sunway charter an EMB-190 last year too?

It also demonstrates the benefits to both airlines of being a part of a bigger family - BA get better aircraft utilisation, EI get added lift to bucket and spade routes for the summer. And you never know it may lead to other things further down the road.

Would they be crewed by BA I wonder?

They will be LCY based aircraft which operate few rotations at weekends as the airport has to close for 26 hours or so from noon on Saturday. BA has already announced some sun destinations ex STN (an airport it does not ordinarily use) for weekends. Not surprising to see them used like this; will be BA livery, crew etc.

I was on one yesterday KLM Cityhopper. Lovely aircraft, suprised at how roomy it was.

Cityflyer have provided weekend aircraft charters for travel agencies for the past four years, nothing IAG-specific / special being granted to Aer Lingus here.

I find it ironic that a poster who posts random links with other text is questioning the significance of this nugget of info, that is now on its 2nd page of debate.

they are using this for a charter to Bordeaux for the ireland game there also.

I've travelled on these aircraft a few times on the Dublin London City route and they are very nice aircraft I have to say. Nice legroom and seats on the BA cabin layout... Great to see them being fully utilised under the IAG umbrella.

Flew one recently with FlyBe, nice plane. Had the cancer research livery; really nice.

Anyone know will it be the EI Bia service on these flights ? Or will it be a BA service ?

Some decent fares available for these routes, probably because they've been added so late for the summer season. The fare below is for the 4th to the 11th of June. I've very recently had the misfortune of having to book flights from ORK-ACE that weekend (Which is the June bank holiday weekend) and fares to most places are obviously sky high so the below is good value!
