    Hi All,
I drive a Toyota Corolla 2001 1.4. When i am driving over rough ground or potholes i can hear a hollow knocking noise. It sounds like it coming from the drivers side door but i think its coming from the wheels.
I brought it in to the mechanic they said they couldn't hear anything and everything looks ok with the suspension but i can still hear the noise.

Any ideas what it could be?

I was thinking that or barring. You would think the mechanic would check for that?

Suspension wear. Could be one of quite a few components.

They said suspension was fine. Its not a loud knocking noise i would have to travel over rough road the hear it. I may bring it back and get them to look at it again.

Antiroll bar bushes and/or Droplinks would be my prime suspects.

They didn't say. I think because they couldn't hear it they had nothing to go on. I believe the just checked the suspension. I will bring it back and they them to do a full check on it.

By the suggestions it could be a number of things. I may bring back to them.

I have stuff in the boot but its stuff that's been there for a while and i did check. Also the noise sounds like its coming from the front drivers side wheel.

If the sound is high up (near the door like you said) it could be the shock mounts. Open the bonnet and have a look at their condition, maybe there's visible damage.

Couple of years back I was at an airshow and when I drove into the field they were using for parking a funny thump started. After looking around a bit I found that it was a bottle of water rolling betwween the rear bulkhead and the seat (Exige).
