Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I really would prefer we got rid of the Union Jack. I reckon any flag should be simple. I would have the silver fern and the southern cross in there, and add a bit of colour (red, blue).

I'm not going to lose sleep over it though, and currently only 25% of Kiwis want a flag change, down from about 45% at the height of republicanism.

But whenever NZ play sport, you hardly ever see the NZ flag, it's always some variation of a silver fern.

I'd actually be interested to know what people think of the Irish flag, but I realise this risks opening a can of worms, and I have absolutely no interest in that at all whatsoever!

The Irish flag is terrible for boxers as it has the white down the middle......Other than that I like it.

I like the Irish flag when it's proper deep green and gold. Usually it's a bright green and yellow and it looks cheap.

Gold?? I always thought it was meant to be orange. Something to do with history.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 30,308 ✭✭✭✭.ak

I think it's supposed to be gold. Green white and gold? Could be absolute wrong. Probably am.

EDIT: Yes, turns out it supposed to be orange. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Ireland

Still think orange is better than that horrible yellow you see most of the time.

NZ is going to vote on whether to get a new flag. I'd be for a change. Try and pick NZ's flag out of the above...

There'll be a sh'itstorm deciding on alternatives to put forward the people, but at a quick glance this

    <img>

is simple, and clearly NZ related. But whether to include the Southern Cross, a Maori design, more colour etc etc will go on for weeks, I imagine.

It's the one with the red southern cross mate, surprised you need help :p

Is it really seeing a referendum? Heard it talked about for years.

Yeah, it's definitely orange. It's a reasonably modern invention too. The "original" Irish flag you would have seen most revolutionaries use was a variation on the harp on green.

When most countries are in distress situations, they fly their flag upside down.

However, the canny Irish attempt to dodge the situation by masking themselves as the Ivory Coast until the bad thing goes away.

I like it. I really like the golden harp on green though. Something that does bother me about the tri-colour is that its twice as long as it is tall, yet you very rarely see it sold or displayed as such outside of government/official things. Every irish flag ive owned has been incorrect in its ratios. I dont think flag makers give a toss.

    EDIT: This is my wall

    ZPiWOdh.jpg

The Irish flag is supposed to be a lot less tall OR a lot wider. A small issue, but being a proud Irishman Id like to have the correct proportions. Alas its hard to find the right one online.

It was fairly innocuous. Made a tackle but my knee hit the dirt fairly hard. Felt like a bit of a stinger at the time, just ran it off and went back to tackling for half an hour. Only noticed swelling/pain after I showered. Turns out I fractured my patella (knee cap).

My issue is now how do I keep fit with this thing on? I'm halfway through my 5x5 program so I reckon taking a 4 week break will really put a dent in it. :(

Yeah it's funny, I took a knock to the knee and thought nothing of it last month. It wasn't until the next day I realised the damage that was done.

Fractured knee cap? Sounds sore. What kind of movement do you have in it?

Technically I have pretty much full movement, it's only a slight fracture at the bottom of the cap, and it feels strong too, just a sharp pain if I fully bend it. However the reason I need the brace is apparently bending it causes your lower leg muscle to tear the fracture further.

Needless to say my missus isn't impressed with Paris 2 days away. :D

Nope, can't bend the leg at all for 4 weeks. Although 4 weeks seems very long... Other than upper body and body weight exercises I can't think of anything.

You can swim without bending your leg. Get a waterproof knee brace. It will be tough but at least you will still be doing a bit of cardio.

I don't use my lower body in the water at all... I've a float that kinda stops me / reminds me.

You can swim without bending your leg. Go to local pool, talk to lifeguard and explain situation and you should get a few decent exercises that will give you a decent set

    Why??
While most of your propulsion in the water comes from your upper body you should be using your lower body as effectively as possible as it minimises energy use in the water and helps create a much more effective stroke which makes swimming much easier.

I'm not even entirely sure you need a letter from the doc (though better to get one). I've had to organise it a couple times for my gf and they never even asked about one.

My missus works for a travel agency and she said she's had a few clients turned away because of no letter etc. so gonna get one just incase.
