Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Camp Nou

The three tier structure is much better for spectators and atmosphere. Plus I've been there to see Liverpool win :D

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 7,265 Mod ✭✭✭✭cdeb

They actually look quite similar tbh.

But I've been at the very back of Camp Nou and the view is far better than that photo of the Rose Bowl gives. So Camp Nou please

Was in camp nou and it's a great experience, but I would love to experience the rose bowl, love the wide openness of it.

So, the Rose Bowl for me.

Actually the openness is a minus for me. The Camp Nou looks like it'd me more impressive from the inside so gets my vote.

    And "that night in Barcelona"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,402 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Hmmm. I kind of like both but will give it to the Rose Bowl for the two Olympics, five Superbowls and World Cup Final.

    Camp Nou.
Gave it the nod last time around against the Bernabeu for the reason that I'd been to both and the overall experience & atmosphere, for me, was better in Barca.
The Rose Bowl unfortunately loses out here despite its hosting several top sporting events

    Camp Nou
Both are really great but the fact I have been to Camp Nou gives it an edge for me, great place and great fans too

    Camp nou.
    Atmosphere 9/10 v 6/10
    History 6/10 v 8/10
    Looks 4/5 v 2/5
    Functionality 4/5 v 3/5
    Multi sport 1/5 v 3/5
    Spectators viewing 3/5 v 3/5
    Quirkiness 4/5 v 1/5
    Facilities 3/5 v 2/5

In my newly revised scoring system....
    34 v 28 to camp nou

Round 3 going live within the hour

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Round 3 will maintain the 20 minute time limit and best answers will be used in the event of a draw. First match of the round is incoming.

Bird's Nest is unique but I hadn't heard of it before this contest. EVERYBODY has heard of Wimbledon. And that's what seperates them as 'Ultimate' Sporting Venues at this stage for me.

Beijing Bird's Nest, one of the most unique looking stadiums in the world.

I haven't been to the stadium, but I have gone for a walk around the area and it is lovely.

Googled some more shots of these and Beijing Bird's Nest is particularly impressive, especially as they use it in winter as a big snow park play place!

So vote for the birds best

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,598 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Wimbledon for me.

It's completely iconic, I doubt there's anyone in the world who hasn't heard of it!

And I was there and had an absolutely fabulous time!

And I'm a big tennis fan.

Sorry to see the Bird's Nest Stadium up against it this early though, that would have got the vote from me in any other match.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,216 ✭✭✭✭paulie21

    Wimbledon

Again its ultimate sporting venue not an architecture contest. I've done the Wimbledon tour, really is iconic with so many great players and moments happened there

    Birds Nest.
It is recognisable, its hosted the Olympics and it still looks bonkers and fresh.
    Sorry SW19..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,402 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

Tough one. History or aesthetics. I'm afraid I'm gong to take the non-romantic route and go with Beijing Bird's Nest.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,504 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    Wimbledon
    It's legendary, and unique.
No one grows up dreaming of appearing in the Bird's Nest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

The nest looks cool but I will go with wimbledon, it is at the very least, the ultimate venue in its sports.

  • Registered Users Posts: 520 ✭✭✭hurlingman97

    Birds nest, unique, looks unbelievable

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,712 ✭✭✭Sawduck

    Beijing Bird's Nest
    Absolutely beautiful looking stadium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

That's the most mental result ever. Wimbledon was ahead with 30 seconds to go and then the Chinese National Stadium got two votes right at the death to take the outright win.

Beijing Bird's Nest advances to the quarter finals

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,956 ✭✭✭✭Omackeral

Two national stadiums about to do battle next folks.

I was going to vote for Wimbledon with a great reason that would have been worth double points... :(

Ah well. There's no way the Aviva can beat the Azteca. The old Lansdowne with its little cottage in the corner, yep. But here, it has to be the Azteca.

    Aviva Stadium

It is a landmark in dublin, can be seen from the mountains and the sea.
And, it is very easy to get to bars and toilets inside, plenty of them and not much queuing.

    Yep, Azteca - size, history
I've been shïtting on the Aviva every round and I don't want to be too negative but for a modern stadium it's massively disappointing

I would say the exact opposite, you must sit in the posh seats :D

    Estadio Azteca
It's a difficult choice but Estadio Azteca is a better stadium if I'm being honest

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,598 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    Aviva.

Because it's Irish, and as I said previously I love the way they bent it around the various heights of houses in the area, it's a very pleasing shape IMO.

And it's a great racing landmark in Dublin Bay.

    Aviva

    Azteca for me too.
Hosted some of the most memorable soccer matches of all time.
Landsowne Road might have got the nod but when I see the Aviva (dreadful name) I just see a big bed pan.
    Azteca gets my vote

  • Registered Users, Subscribers, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47,338 ✭✭✭✭Zaph

Estadio Azteca, so good it's hosted TWO world cup finals. The Aviva has yet to even host one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,422 ✭✭✭✭Kolido

One hosted 2 world cup finals, the other hosted Lady Gaga.

    Gotta go with the former

    Aviva, stunning revamped Irish stadium

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,035 ✭✭✭BrianBoru00

I'm again plumping for the Lansdowne Road stadium. It has all the history of the Aztec and more really.
    Great matches in two sports.
I like the new design -
    Great atmosphere for rugby certainly.
    Great location.
The oldest international rugby stadium in the world.

The Azteca is half the age and on the outskirts of the city.

Aviva. Don't get the popularity of the other.

Location for Aviva is great too. Not as good as Croker but good nonetheless

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,402 ✭✭✭✭Collie D

    Aviva.

Had been waiting for a threat before unleashing this as my reason

If only I knew how to imbed it.

Azteca, looks class, hosted major sporting events.

Don't like the Aviva either, was dead any time I was there.
