Help find a 7 seater

Hi,
Long time lurker, first time poster in here.
Having some difficulty finding a suitable 7 seater now the family has grown to 3 kids and 2 adults.

Was assuming I would need a petrol as we are driving roughly 12k km per year, mainly involving the Mrs. driving to and from work in Dublin city. Would this definitely rule out a diesel? as I have seen mentioned that if you "bring it for a rip on the weekend" that would be sufficient, is this true?

Petrol options seem to be limited to:

VW Touran (would be really interested as it has 3 genuine seats in the 2nd row but have been told to avoid the TSI engine due to problematic timing chains, is this true?)
Mazda 5 (€750 tax seems extreme)
Toyota Verso (like finding hen's teeth)
Zafira (cant warm to them)
Qashqai +2 (would be open to one but seem quite expensive for the year that would be in my price range)

Budget would be about €10k as I am currently driving a 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer which is overcrowded now and from making some trade in inquiries, I would probably do well to get a grand or so for it.

If anyone had any views or tips they would be much appreciated as I have been looking at all the sites for a good few months now and feel like I'm miles off deciding.

If you need the 3 rows of seats plus the boot then you will struggle with any of those on your list.

^^ agreed.

S-MAx/Galaxy, grand picasso, peugot 5008, renault grand scenic are your only real options for a true 7 seater.

Rest has simply no space once the rear seats are up and your child IS the crumple zone.

I don't know if you've ever been inside a smax or galaxy but they have just as much rear space as the chrysler.
And the Chrysler isn't renowned for its safety features. In fact its receives very poor reviews for safety, cheap interior and lack of tech upgrades.

A diesel car, I have a white, 151 7 seater, zafira tourer we have owned it 2 years now and with 4 children it has served us greatly.

We are now looking to purchase an Audi A4 / A6, as our eldest 2 children have found there own way of traveling to school on public transport.

Give me a shout if you are interested in having a look at our motor

I see what you mean, I was pretty much looking at having an extra seat but I guess boot space is something I should bear in mind.

If you’ll mainly be using the middle row, in general you’ll have a decent boot with the back seats down. But it is something to consider if you plan on having more kids!

Thanks for the replies. Just a bit concerned that in another thread it was suggested that a diesel would be wrecked by not doing much mileage. As herself is on maternity leave and I cycle to work, i wouldn't imagine there will be many miles at all done.

Would you consider the UK if you want a petrol.

The chape tax economy of post 2008 Ireland is a desolate wasteland when it comes to petrol mpv 7 seaters.

Speaking of ‘chape tax’ the tax on that is €750 because of the high Co2 emissions.

The hunt is still ongoing and have noticed that the 5 of us do not actually fit in the lancer at the moment so really need to step up the search. Would appreciate any thoughts anybody had on either of the below cars.

The Touran that states in the ad it requires a €4000 deposit and 40 days delivery, has pictures clearly not taken in Ireland, is obviously Jap-spec and is being sold by Western Imports.

On that western imports crowd, call me old fashioned but im not sure is it commonplace to hand somebody a 4grand deposit and not receive the car for 40 days? Feels a bit suspect especially when the internet doesnt seem to have heard of them.
