So far, all we've got to go on is a tender sent out. It mentions "four new stops and a park and ride".

Taken from one of the many other Finglas Luas threads:

TII have tendered for a topographical survey of the proposed Luas Finglas route.

The proposed route will extended from the current Green Line terminus at Broombridge to Charlestown near the N2/M50 interchange

It'll include 4 stops, two bridges, one P&R and an extension to Broombridge depot. It'll be 4km long

There's work currently going on opposite Royal Canal Bank parallel to the rail line. some suggested it was part of the Luas extension but obviously unlikely.
    Any ideas ?

With the current Broomebridge depot more or less up against Broomebridge and its two arches for mainline train and canal, it will be interesting how they'll extend. Direct to Charlestown is almost at right angles across the Tolka Valley.

It must be certain that they'll want a stop for the Royal Canal Park development but then swing quickly up through or close to Finglas West, one would think.

Current work must be the new Pelletstown station on the Maynooth line!

As said, there's no actual map. Just a few design specifications and back of a napkin drawings of what a Luas line going to Finglas might look like.

Work on the actual line itself only started in 2019 so that's when they started working out the details. And we haven't really heard anything since. They're studying the alignment options and probably have a fair idea of the emerging preferred route right now. COVID-19 has delayed things but there was supposed to be a consultation on the emerging preferred route in 2020.

Yeah, that would be right beside Royal Canal Park.

What are the likely roads it will pass along in finglas.

It should go out to the airport. It would help a lot of workers at the airport. Wouldn't cost much since its green fields.

It would still cost a significant amount. Over €100m. MetroLink would be quicker from the city centre, Luas to city centre + MetroLink would only be marginally slower from Cabra and journeys from Finglas to the airport doesn't warrant a high capacity rail line. BusConnects would serve this journey from Finglas at a fraction of the cost.

Better to invest in Metro West. Eventually.

100 million is peanuts to have a rail link to our national airport.

    It should have both.

There will be a more suitable rail link. MetroLink will be delivered well before Finglas Luas.

€100m+ if you somehow squeeze it in through Swords Road and Corballis Road. Which the DAA won't like. A lot more if you have to tunnel under the airport. €100m+ is still a lot of money to save a few minutes from parts of Finglas to the airport through a route that has no road traffic. Everybody else will use MetroLink.

I would directly benefit from a Luas from Finglas to the airport. It would probably go past my house. It shouldn't even be in the top 10 of Dublin priority public transport projects.

Could even take a train from Broombridge to Glasnevin and get on Metrolink there rather than going into the city centre (assuming a reasonable frequency on the Maynooth line after it is upgraded to DART).

    10 minutes, I believe.

So average 5 min wait + 3 min to Glasnevin + 2 min to travel between stations + 1 min average wait + 15 min to airport = 26 mins

    Probably quicker than a Luas.

Do you know the possible route. Roads etc .

Any route between Broombridge and Charlestown SC is a possible route. They will all be looked at in terms of engineering and environment constraints and a preferred route identified. This process is only just starting. A previously identified route has already been posted. You can keep asking but nobody can tell you any more than that.

This thread needs to be merged into the existing thread and let people read through it.

If a terminal was ever built on the western side of of the airport, it could always be extended to there then. In the interim, I think the €100m or so would be much better utilised going toward Metro West, or extending Metro Link to Donabate to interchange with mainline services, and DART (whenever that goes live).

What ever is decided. I wish things would move quicker. Make a decision , do the due diligence and start the work. It takes way to long to do infrastructure projects in Ireland. In Dublin at least you can see the demand is there for Light rail. It is always mentioned demand and cost. 10 / 15 / 20 years from now 100 million will be seen as nothing. Get on with it and build. The social aspect should also be noted. A happy people are more productive.

There are a few route options being explored. No matter the option selected The route will almost certainly use Tolka Valley Park and the green space on St Helena's Road on option will take in Mellowe's Park and St Margaret's road. another option will have more street running and take in Finglas village. I think there's an inherent preference for the first option, with more separate running and less sharp turns.

That would mean going down Cardiffsbridge Rd ?

    Nope

It's likely to go straight through the green area at St Helena's. I wouldn't mind it going slightly west at Broombridge over Tolka Valley to serve the south parts of Finglas West but probably unlikely.

I get the 40e to Broombridge sometimes. The traffic at Cabra is a nightmare (as is the bus going through a residential area), so can't wait until the 40e skips Cabra and goes through the Ballyboggan road which should save a a lot of time.

Is it weird that this post actually annoyed me? it's like people asking for directions, then you give detailed directions and then to confirm they say, 'so straight through.....(someplace you never mentioned once that isn't anywhere near the route you've described)'
