It doesn't have to be expensive or fast...my uncle had one of these GT6's, in mustard yellow, which we drove down to Le Mans one year, from the east coast of England, through Holland, Belgium and France, with an overheating engine, fumes being pumped into the cockpit and all in 30 degree weather, absolutely bliss.

I am at a complete loss to understand how anyone could think a Ferrari 348/355/TestaRossa is the most beautiful car they've ever seen! Have you people never seen a 250GT Lusso, a 250GTO, a Daytona? And what about prewar Bugattis, Alfa Romeo 8Cs, some Lancias? By the same token, there have been some beautiful Aston Martins. The DB4 GT Zagato, and some of the Touring-bodied cars spring to mind. But the DB9?? I dunno, lads.

The 348 isn't the most beautiful car I've ever seen but somehow (probably because it is more subtle) I do think it is better looking than the TestaRossa even though it is the lesser car. They were just photos I took in good light with a nice background so I was just illustrating that a good background makes for a more beautiful picture rather than just a beautiful car (like in the pic of the Aston Martin in the first post).

Anyway, I figured this thread is basically just for posting what I call "car porn" so obviously exotic cars are going to feature in that.

The DB9 is the same design as the Vanquish, Vantage and DB7. It's just the same design over and over - like Porsche, but at least you're not going to mistake the GT3 for a Carrera. The DB9 is a decent looking car but the design is just too boring and too plain.

I think the Lamborghini Miura and Ferrari 250 GTO are the best looking classic cars.

I'll have to get back to you on what I think is the best looking modern car.

I may be mistaken but isn't the "Ferrari" in the picture above actually a Datsun mock-up?:)

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,495 ✭✭✭Abelloid

Yep, pretty sure it's a replica. Closing Times square and driving a genuine 250 GTO would be too much to ask :D

Yes, I remember noticing this in the film. The proportions are all wrong. It's actually a Datsun 240Z-based replica. Some guy in California noticed the proportinons of the cars were similar back in the '80s & began making replicas. I think there was a company in England doing it as well.

Actually, the 240Z is a classic in it's own right...

People are getting into the realms of dream-cars in this discussion. The humble Alfa 156 is one of the most beautiful cars of the last 10 years IMO...

    Without a doubt.

I know it's not a real 250 GTO. That picture is from a scene in Vanilla Sky. I just think black is the best colour for a Ferrari, thats why I used that picture.

Excepting the DS, theres a case to be made for the 156 being the most beautiful saloon car ever IMO. It may not be the best saloon car ever, or most reliable, but it is beautiful. Its shape has not dated at all (although its early days) and the car does better with less adornment than with more - always a good sign.

Which is why I'll be keeping mine forEVER....

I've decided never to sell it and just keep it well maintained.

In 15 years time, every one will be envious of it as I can't imagine there will be many nice examples about.

of the above cars the 66 AC Cobra and the F430 Cabrio gave me a stiffy;)

Have to agree about the Miura, one of the best looking classics.

The Miura is lovely, but the Maserati Bora more so.

I really love them too. The Miura was possibly the greatest lamborghini ever. They say the shape of that lambo was based on a womans body. Personally, i dont see it but its still gorgeus. And the Bora is definatley a beutiful maserati. Pity the name was stolen by Volkswagen :D !

Very old would be the bentley, old would be the jag, 70's is the Miura, practical is the 993 911 Turbo, which I love from every angle!

Nobody has mentioned the E-type Jag (may have something tgo do with the demographic of this forum)

Not that I'm an E-type fan - don't like 'em at all. But apparantly if any of the classic car mags put an E-type on the cover it boosts sales.

And while I'm dissing sacred cows - the Muira - what's all the fuss about? It looks 'squished'

I'm not a Ferrari fan but:

    - 250 GTO
    - Lusso
    - 288 GTO
    - Daytona
    - 355
    - 456

    ...all beautiful.
I know it's not beautiful but there's something really cool about the 550 Maranello. it's purposeful, not a glamour-puss...

Oh and the Aston V8 Vantage that Timothy Dalton drove in 'The Living Daylights' - I lusted after that car...
