According to the mod of the playstaton forum I breached the charter when I linked to a Psx webiste with rare games:

    Dear Overblood,

You have received a warning at boards.ie.

    Reason:
    Breach of Forum Charter

That site you linked to does not look legit. Please do not post a link to it again.

    Thanks

Check this website out it has some cool & obscure playstation titles for sale. Some of them are quite rare. It has stuff like battle arena toshinden! Haven't seen that in frickin years.

Warnings serve as a reminder to you of the forum's rules, which you are expected to understand and follow.

    All the best,
    boards.ie

So I linked to a website and now I have an infraction. It has a lot of info on rare games for the Playstation I don't see any harm in it. The guy who owns the website was even nice enough to come along to boards and explain his pricing system! Unfortunately the thread is now deleted.

And this is the charter that I allegedly broke:
Here's a brief outline of the rules posters are expected to follow when posting on this forum:

    1. No links or promotion of warez, piracy, or backing-up games.

    2. Attack the post, not the poster. Disagreements are encouraged, but don't stoop to name-calling or bickering.

    3. This board is for Playstation-related posts only. If you want to talk about other consoles or systems, do so on the relevant boards. Posts regarding multi-format games etc. should be posted to the Games board.

    4. If you have a problem, report the post.

Thanks to Amp's original charter for the blueprint. See also the Games board charter for further reading.

How did I break this charter?

Yeah, maybe it was an accident. That site generally looks OK to me, and I don't see any problems with his eBay profile either.

The thread was deleted because people started linking to warez, so maybe he infracted you accidentally. Did you PM him to see what the story was?

It's only a warning, which is inconsequential, but I understand the principle of the thing :)

I definitely didn't link to any warez. I didn't think of PMing him. Will do.

I sent him a PM. It doesn't look like he's going to get rid of the infraction. He just said the same thing as before: the site doesn't look legit. It doesn't have a phone number or address.

Could some uber-mod please make the infraction disappear? I really don't think I deserved it.

We don't do that unless the mod asks us to. It's only a warning and has absolutely no consequences anyway.

I can see his point - there is no way to contact that site except via email. Also checking the domain details and they've completely anonymised their registration - there is no way to find out who owns the site or contact them. If you're running a business that offers services to the general public, that looks very dodgy to me.

I wouldn't have even thought of looking for contact details, and I imagine monument did because he's seen a number of such sites posted up offering antique games, or ROMS, or whatever. I will accept his superior experience in this and say that there's no reason to reverse the infraction.

As I said, it's only a warning - nothing more than a note to say, "That site looks dodgy, don't post it again, thanks". It has no further consequences beyond that.

But as you said earlier on it's the principle. This is just really annoying and I would really like the inraction taken away.

Anyways, gameantique has written to me since he can't post on this site for some reason, he thinks he has been banned. He asked me to forward this message. Looks like they DO have the address shown on the site after all.

So what was I infracted for again?
"This web-site is not warez and it is not illegal. It does not have anything like pop-ups, warez links, roms, back-ups or any harmful materials that are common in the internet. This website is only for the intention of giving information to gamers and it is FREE to use. All of the informations and videos are created by us and we are a legal web-site. It looks like the modders who tried to block me or erased the threads DID NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE WEB-SITE TO SEE THAT THE ADDRESS IS THERE. You can find our address in the "Conditions Of Use" part of the website. For the modders, here is the address:

    GameAntique.com
    Rue de L`industrie 14
    1700 Fribourg
    Switzerland
    http://www.gameantique.com

Today in the internet world, most of the web-sites do not give telephone numbers because of security issues and spammers. When they give an order in the website, they will receive our telephone number for sure!"

Now monument, any chance you could please get rid of that infraction?

And they're also registered with Paypal. If it was a dodgy website it would ask for Wire transfer or something.

I accept the site isnt dodgy. I will over turn the infraction.

Then I'm going to infract you again for pimping commercial sites. :)

Ok, let me explain. Firstly, that whole exchange simply REEKS of shill. Now, I accept that you arent the owner of the site but something tells me you arent a simple passerby either.

We dont allow people to arrive and go:

"HEY EVERYBODY, HEY I FOUND THIS ***AWESOME** NEW SITE THATS SELLS STUFF ALL US KIDS LOVE. WOO. LETS ALL GO OVER THERE AN BUY STUFF!!".

because we'd be innundated with every half assed marketing clown in the business.

The logical conclusion to that is that we cant link commercial ventures, or at least until we are sure you arent pulling the mick.

Sorry, it sounds like you got the short end of the stick because we are so sick of that sort of spam and crap. But to be fair, review your own posts with that in mind and tell me it doesnt sound like that.

You shouldnt post links to commericial sites, let them buy ads here, its not like we charge much (unlike that game site... f*ck me !!).

    What!??

Ok, let me explain. Firstly, that whole exchange simply REEKS of shill.
    I'm not a shill.
Now, I accept that you arent the owner of the site but something tells me you arent a simple passerby either.
What's that something? I'm in no way afilliated with any commercial anything! How can I convince you?
We dont allow people to arrive and go:

"HEY EVERYBODY, HEY I FOUND THIS ***AWESOME** NEW SITE THATS SELLS STUFF ALL US KIDS LOVE. WOO. LETS ALL GO OVER THERE AN BUY STUFF!!".
I didn't do that, and to be honest I didn't even know that they sold stuf!! They have a profile on youtube that has videos of really old and rare games that make you go "ah jaysus I remember that" and I checked out their site. When I saw that their site had lists like "Rarest games ever" and "top ten rare games for ps1" I thought I had stumbled upon gaming heaven because one of my many hobbies is tracking down rare games. This website told me what games were rare. Handy info to know.
The logical conclusion to that is that we cant link commercial ventures, or at least until we are sure you arent pulling the mick.
What makes you think I'm pulling the mick? Please let me know because you know how annoying it is to be accused of something you didn't do.

If I seemed like a shill it's because of the reactions I got. But the replies I got were like " not great tbh" or "afaik that game there isn't too rare" or "iirc thats cheaper on ebay" or "tbh iirc not great afaik" and so on and so forth.

Any half arsed gaming fan would drool at the sight of the old games. I know I was. I saw games I had totally forgotten about. Am I sounding like a shill again? I don't mean to, I'm just passionate about old games.
You shouldnt post links to commericial sites, let them buy ads here,

You better check out bargain alerts so! Every thread has a link to a commercial site. Are you going to delete every thread there jsut like mine was deleted? Can I watch?:pac: I've never seen a whole forum being deleted before! Awesome.

I didnt accuse you of anything I said it "REEKED" of shill, which it did. I accept you ARENT I just am pointing out why you got the reaction you did.

If you go into a forum called Bargain Alerts you will expect to find links to things to buy. Its not spam in there because thats the information the users were looking for.

Just like Viagra mails are not spam on a mailing list for people with erectile problems.

Spam is information in the wrong place.

In games I expect to talk about games... not be confronted with thread after thread of links to "cool sales sites I just found". Or are you special that you get to do things the rest of us refrain from in order to keep the site clean and functional?

And a smart mouth is really helping.

    DeV.

Ok this is getting close to an end but there's just a few more things that I need to clear up:
I didnt accuse you of anything

    What does this mean so?:
Now, I accept that you arent the owner of the site but something tells me you arent a simple passerby either.

What do you mean I'm not a simple passerby? Do you think I have some sneaky agenda or something?

In games I expect to talk about games...

My post was essentially about games though wasn't it? A specialized rare game website, not your normal trash.

Also, which section of the Games charter did I break??
