    Hi

Went for UPC triple play and had the 2 engineers turn up this morning. They told me that the 20 year old cable running from the Eircom box situated 50 ft from my door need to be replaced by two new cables to get 30 mb broadband and TV. THe box has the UPC fibre cables.

The installers have been banned by Eircom from touching anything in this box which is a recent developement.

Are Eircom trying to stop UPC gain market share by this underhand means.

    Anybody else have this problem?

Contacted Comreg but they said it was not their problem.

Tell them to go overground , the underground cable is evidently eircoms.

    If they won't go overground....why not ??

As a duct inside your gate is yours ( the cable inside is eircoms with your blessing) why do you not install UPC in it yourself??

Do as Spongebob suggests, simply get the UPC engineers to leave you the length of cable and run it through the duct yourself then they can connect it up themselves, nothing eircom can do about it as UPC never went near 'their' stuff.

Asked installer to leave cables but they would not. Over ground not an option with paved driveway

How about cabling along the wall with the neighbouring house. Where exactly is the nearest UPC junction anyway ....seing as your estate is not cabled it seems. Giz a map.

Are you in Dublin?. When telecom eireann owned Cablelink they had a number of joint projects together, so the TE chamber and duct is part owned by UPC.

UPC point is INSIDE Eircom box which is 50 ft from front door. This is connected via an old coax cable running through a duct to my house.
