Oh I assure you they care very much about what other nations think of them.

Israel realises all too well that if it loses the goodwill of the international community it's in trouble. Israel and its friends work very hard at the PRopaganda game.

I'm also very certain Hamas and company would do much worse to the Israelis if they had the firepower, not that it would bother you.

Wow you know me so well, how exactly did you come to that conclusion? Where in my post did I support Hamas?

Seriously? The guy you're referring to was clearly seen to be walking away in the video. Do you think the cops should be given carte blanche to do as they please without the risk of media blowback?

It's an important box to tick in order to look no-nonsense and sock it to the lefties. Being uncompromisingly right-wing is "in" among a lot of intelligent, educated people. Possibly a level of attention-seeking there too. When an apartment block is blown up in Palestine by the Israeli militia, not a word though. It's weird tbh.
Left-wingers are only siding with Palestine because Israel are backed by capitalist America. Communists and socialists will join forces with any terrorist organization just as long as they're both fighting the big, bad capitalists of the West.

In all honesty, the political left couldn't give a sh.it about Palestine, they'll just align with anyone to suit their socialist agenda.
Of course! That's just gotta be it! I mean, it's not at all the case that people have a problem with the Israeli state because of its downright abusive treatment of palestinian people and its use of disproportionate force - its only because "they hate america". no way is it possible to have a problem with Israeli state policy and also have great time for America and be condemning of Hamas.

Why the all or nothing stuff? Not everyone is inflexible in their thinking and sticking rigidly to one "side". Just because that's how you are, no need to project.

Palestinians in the OT don't have a vote in Israeli elections and are under martial law, sans the protections of the Geneva conventions. They're constantly subjected to violence from both Israeli forces and Israeli colonists. I'm not seeing anything "modern and civilized" there. Quite the opposite in fact.

The PA is not an Islamist organisation and is run by Fatah not Hamas.

You're like a broken record. I've addressed this argument before yet you keep bringing it up time and time again. Hence the pointless game of one-upping continues and no evolution of opinions or critical thought takes place.

If Israel granted the Palestinians living in the OT voting rights, it would be akin to annexing the territory. There would be uproar from the Left. Either the West Bank becomes part of Israel proper and the residents gain voting rights, or it doesn't and they don't.

You're obviously suffering from the terrible affliction of tunnel vision. You're conveniently leaving out the fact that Palestinians in the OT like to indiscriminately fire rockets into Israeli cities as a hobby, which is extra-cold blooded due to the fact that 20% of the Israeli population is Arab and they're therefore killing their Arab brothers. You can keep track of the rocket attacks, month by month here. Yes, it's a wikipedia article but all claims are fully referenced. Two sides to every story.

Exactly. Two sides to every story, yet the Israel apologists refuse to acknowledge their army's exceedingly violent role.

When you're faced with suicide bombings at checkpoints and kids throwing rocks at you all day, you're hardly going to walk around handing out lollipops and daisies.

Anti-Semites accuse the state of Israel of being racist, hmm? Thread should be moved to Politics where it'll be moderated under a more appropriate set of rules.

Oh look, using disingenuous extremes as if there's no in-between is terrible debating. Nobody suggested handing out lollipops and daisies - it's a pointless thing to say. How about... proportionate defence and... not killing 300 people, including kids by just blowing up an apartment block?

You wouldn't be saying criticism of the Israeli state/military policy re Palestine is = anti semitism now would you? Cuz that would be downright stupid.

Do you have a source for any for these outrageous claims or are you going to make things up? The IDF are a professional army and don't blow up apartment blocks for no reason. If what you say is true and you provide a source, I'd bet my house that the apartment was being used for weapons storage or was sheltering terrorists.

+1 that the thread should be moved to politics where higher standards will be applied. The Liveline crowd give me a headache.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 6,327 ✭✭✭Madam_X

Holy sh1t you're denying the Israeli army's well known disproportionate defence tactics? And you're saying it's ok they "probably" contained weapons. How blinded ARE you?! You want the thread moved to politics because you dislike the valid comments in argument against you? You're only going to encounter the same thing on politics. Like it or not, your precious IDF isn't the noble organisation you pretend it is, so you're just going to have to put up with the (justified) criticism.

What are you talking about? I don't have to put up with anything, to be honest. This is a discussion board. If I don't feel like reading trash, I log off. Criticize all you want but Israel is going nowhere. It has one of the strongest and most innovative economies on the planet, along with one of the most advanced armies with a revolutionary and awe-inspiring Iron Dome defense system. It has the financial and moral support of the other great powers on the planet (USA, UK, Canada etc) so I doubt they're concerned about what you think. Unfortunately you have zero influence on Israeli affairs. Sorry.

We have strayed wildly off topic, however. Thread was about police files on a dead Palestinian files that went missing.

Valid views that differ from your own are not trash. Yes you can log off if you don't like reading certain truths but you were the one who advocated moving this thread to politics, I only said that that won't magically cause a pile of answers you like reading. The same realities you don't like being reminded of will crop up there too. Your username is one hell of an ironic one!

Where did I even imply Israel is "going anywhere" or its backers (including the US whipped UK) care what I think? what a weird thing to say, along with the faux apology. It's grand - er, you don't need to say sorry. But as you say, it's a discussion board - therefore people can discuss what they object to by Israeli forces and which is weirdly denied by you and a handful of others. Its power and so on doesn't change that. or are you saying people must not dare criticise the mighty powerful Israel...?

More Israeli's have died from ****ing paanut allergies in the last 10 years than from attacks by Palestinian militants.

    Cry me a ****ing river.

Israeli occupation of Palestine is disgusting and illegal.

I'm aware of that. There is a third option, in which Israel withdraws its troops and colonists inside its recognised borders, by the way.

That would be Gaza. Are you trying to say that Hamas rocket fire justifies West Bank colonisation?

    .

The occupation and settlements predate suicide bombings and the intifadah.

That term has been rendered meaningless by people like you who throw it around rather than actually engaging in debate.

It's quite a nasty thing to do and intellectually lazy.

Yeah, I think Israel is firmly in people's minds as a country with it's own people, so I'd call a small group of people good 'ol racists than anti-Semites.

I lived opposite an Israeli family before, and if somthing as simple as their car getting clamped happened, they'd be out in the street screaming and shouting that the clampers were anti-semitic. The fact the clampers(or whoever else they decided to roar and shout down-it happened a lot) hadn't the foggiest idea where they were from or what religion they were made that whole concept a bit daft.

Devalued the whole position in my eyes anyway. Funnily enough, every time they played the "anti-semitic" card, people ran a mile, it really worked a treat. I became a little bit cynical about the whole "anti-semitic" thing. I just didn't think they were very nice people, I gave two shytes what religion they were, tbh. A jewish git is just as gitish as a muslim git, or a Christian git. Israel behaving badly is just that, a country acting badly. Don't really care what religion they are(genuinely) so I have no interest when they play the "anti-semitic" card. No, I'm anti git, actually.:)

Daft?. Yeah, I hate it as well. You must have that new style speaking screen. I'd love one of those. I've changed it to spare your sensibilities. No problem, I wouldn't want to come across as a git. I didn't notice, but then I am fairly coarse.
