Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Okay, I'm not sure this is 100% accurate still but here's one: Name four English players that have been bought for over £7m but have never played international football.

There may be more but at the time I read the article there were four, that was this time last year.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,222 ✭✭✭✭Will I Amnt

Connor Wickham was expensive enough, not sure of the price but I reckon it was over 7m anyway.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,998 ✭✭✭grohlisagod

Kevin Davies? When he went to Blackburn?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,222 ✭✭✭✭Will I Amnt

Did Franny Jeffers get a game for England?

    Jermaine Pennant?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

Davies and Jeffers both played for England. Pennant went for 6.5m according to figures I can find so he's not one.

Wickham is correct and there are actually 5. I hadn't counted him on my original list so still 4 more to get.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭bijapos

Nigel Reo-Coker was expensive in his day, think it was near to £10 million that was paid for him and I don't think he's played for England yet.

I think the late Dean Richards never played for England either, just under age.

EDIT: I think Reo-Coker played in a friendly a few years back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

Dean Richards is correct. As is Reo-Coker, as far as I know. I don't think he ever played for England.

    Two more to get.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,906 ✭✭✭✭PhlegmyMoses

Did Chris Sutton ever play for England? I remember him refusing England Bs at one point and he went to Chelsea for £10m.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭bijapos

Could be Anton Ferdinand? He's never played for England anyway.

    Sutton played once for England.

Anton Ferdinand is correct, one more to get.

A real shot in the dark

Scott Dann?? He was close to the 7 million mark when he moved to Blackburn

Great shout, I never even thought of him but he went for £6m. Still one to go.

    Could be a keeper

    Chris Kirkland?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,565 ✭✭✭losthorizon

    Sorry none of those trophies.

Its held by a very famous team as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

Nope, not Chris Kirkland. And it's not a keeper.

Its not held by Brazil is it?

Because when you zoom in there is trophy there in the background that looks a bit like the Jules Rimet trophy.

    Micheal turner?

and the trophy question... cup-winners-cup top scorer

Not Turner. He cost between 4 and 6 million depending on where you source your figures.

    Jay rodriguez?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

That's a good shout, I did check him out before posting and found that he went for £6m but Wiki says it was 'believed to be in the region of £7m' so I'll give you that one. Still (at least) one more to get.

So far we've got Wickham, Reo-Coker, Ferdinand, Richards and Rodriguez.

  • Registered Users Posts: 14,193 ✭✭✭✭Kerrydude1981

Its not that nut job Joey Barton is it?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

    Nope, thankfully.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

Clue: Until recently Carl Cort was on this list but he made his way off it in a manner which this player could also conceivably do.

Cort plays for Guyana, so this guy has double nationality?

Edit; Curtis Davis? He's been in the English squad but not sure if that counts as a cap if he never played?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 500 ✭✭✭Jarrod

Yes. He's highly unlikely to ever play for England but could play for another country.

    Jarvis has played for England.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,003 ✭✭✭bijapos

Arsenal, Villa, Middlesborough, Sunderland, Lazio and Roma are amongst the teams to have done this once.

Barcelona and Newcastle have done it twice.

Napoli have done it three times.

Real Madrid, Inter and AC Milan have done it four times.

Juventus are so far the only team to have done it five times.

Real were the last team to do it.

    What is it?

    Hints
    No afraid not.

A Hint is that this trophy cannot be awarded again.
    Sorry none of those trophies.

Its held by a very famous team as well.

    Also, the team isn't Brazil.
