As someone who owns a Z3 compact and curious about "upgrading" to the S7 - is this battery life actually considered good in a flagship phone these days?

The Compact model in the Z series easily cracks 7 hours screen time. Surely these €800 phones have caught up by now?!

What size screen and resolution is the z3...

As a former Z3 compact owner I'd consider it a worthwhile upgrade. The z3 camera was great, but the s7 is unreal. The auto focus is something else!

I'm already 30 mins over my average screen time from a full G4 cycle (3h 48m) and I've still got 36% battery

Very interested to hear what screen on time you're getting for a full charge. Would need a couple of battery charge cycles first though I'd imagine before it settles down.

4.6" and 720p and therefore 20% smaller battery than the S7.

But still way better battery battery life.

Third shop i went to was Three. They had the phone in stock on pay as you go and whats more they had a Gear VR Headset to give me too. Any their pay as you go plan aint bad either. 20 euro a month for basically unlimited data, call and texts. So I snapped up the phone for 659.99. Happy Days:D

Is it locked to 3 then? And if so, does anyone know if it's likely to be unlockable? I'm with meteor on a sim only contract, and I don't have much interest in changing networks. 659.99 seems like a good price though doesn't it? I looked quickly online there and see one on pixmania for 700, but i'm not sure how reliable they are?

So i went in looking to pick up the S7 today on Pay As You Go.

First shop I went to was Carphone Warehouse. They said the phone will not be available on pay as you go for at least a month.

Second shop I went to was Eir/Meteor. They said the phone will not be available on pay as you go for at least 2 months. Maybe longer. At which point they tried to push their bill pay plans. No thanks.

Which store was that? Are they giving that in every store or just to someone lucky?

This was in Galway. The Three store on Shop Street was the one I went to. The staff in there said that they had only six Gear VR headsets to give away to the first six s7 phones purchased. I got number 5 i think.

Locked to Three. I was told I have to either:
    a) Hold the phone for 6 months or
    b) Top it up with 120 euro before the phone can be unlocked

Anyone ever use this site to unlock? www.unlockriver.com

See a few of the tech reviewers on YouTube promoting them.

Priced an s7 edge on three unlock and it was 39.99 dollars.

Wouldn't mind paying that if I knew it would work.

I was warned in Three that the phone couldn't be unlocked without meeting their criteria. Got a price to get it unlocked elsewhere for 49, I asked them about it in Three and was basically told that it can't work on their phones - only after 6 months or 120 of credit put through it.

There is always some hitch

Time for bed. Had enough crap about these phones for one day :o

So after Samsung giving me the hike at the start, I emailed their CEO. He wrote back and said when he got the VR back in stock he'd send me on when I gave him my address.

Phone so far is a massive step up from my iPhone 5. Can't believe the difference in fact.

Loving my phone, but weirdest thing - it only comes with _1_ ringtone. The UK help site shows it comes with a manager offering multiple ringtones (when I do the below, at step 5 it just lets me browse to a dir with 1 ringtone file in it)

That's strange but you can do it a different way. If for example, you download Zedge, when you pick ringtones from within Zedge, the app gives you the choice of assigning it as a general ringtone, to a specific contact or as a notification. I tried it with a few new ringtones last night and it worked no problem.

I must see if the same thing happens me when I follow the link you posted.

My S7 arrived yesterday. Its my first Android, I've always had an iPhone. Last i had was the 5S. I'm loving the S7. It's taking me a while to get used to it but so far so good. I dont know why i stuck with the iphone for so long. The camera on the S7 is unreal compared to the 5S. I also love how easy it was to transfer all my stuff over with the USB connector.

So tell me what must have apps i need to download?

First things always for me are WhatsApp, Viber, Pocketcasts, Pocket, GSam Pro, Keep, Twitter, and Android Central. Everything else for me was already there.
Adding your own personal apps such as your online banking, wireless printer plugin, etc is worth a look too.

Thanks Patww79. I completely forgot about my wireless printer.
I'll have to google some of those apps because I've no idea what they are.

How about a good cover for a clumsy person thsts highly likely to drop the phone? Not an otterbox, i hate them.

I'm not sure how much protection it would offer but I got the Spigen Liquid Crystal one. It's clear and not too bulky. Hopefully it will give a bit of cushion in the event of a drop.

Thanks again. I like the look of that. I might have a look in a few local shops today to see what they have. I need it asap. I'm afraid to even carry the phone around the house. I've dropped it once akready but luckily onto a rug!!

I bought the official samsung s view cover for the s7 edge it's a great cover and adds very little bulk to the phone but it's a flip case which some might not like it was €50 in CPW.

The whole thing about phone shops not being able to sell the phone prepay is complete bull****.

My brother works in meteor and the only reason they don't sell the phone prepay initially is that the employees don't get commission.

For the first few weeks they get a limited stock and know that there will be people willing to go on bill for them.
