Can I use my old eir router after moving to sky instead of the new one?

I was with eir and switched to sky for the bundles etc. Is there a way I can use my old eir router instead of the sky one? The wifi signal upstairs is gone bad since the move but fine everywhere else. If that fails are powerline extenders my best option then?

Some genius guys here know how to connect your old router to your new router and use the old router as a wifi station

Just a word of warning, I did the same then sky increased their price, so keep an eye on them, May be think of changing after a year if their price is not so good.
