Don't think so gameplay wise but it is a significant graphical upgrade.

Might pick up the PS4 version for €5 since I’ll only play myCareer really.

I was thinking of picking up one of the Assassin's Creed games on sale - Unity and Syndicate - but I don't know which. Anyone recommend either of them?

I only played Syndicate out of those and it was great but suffered awful from repetition. You have areas of the map that you need to perform certain missions in each before fighting like a boss character if I remember correctly. The problem is the missions are the same in every are. I groaned everytime I went to a new area and saw the same icons pop up. It was great playing as the twins though and having the train as the home base. I see it's 12 euro but 15 for gold edition. In the dlc, there is a jack the ripper story which I really liked, might be worth springing an extra few quid on it.

AC Unity is very tempting as it looks old school AC, lovely area and actually assassinating people. I see that's a tenner, would be interested to hear if that's worth a punt.

Unity is awful, easily the worst AC game, and I am including spin-offs and side games in that. Syndicate was an improvement but I still found it to be average at best. Playing the AC game that released either side of those two would be a much better idea.

It isn't. Since AC went down The Witcher 3 route with Origins, it seems to me that there has been a fair bit of revisionism taking place with Unity and that now its somehow 'pure' because it is set in one city. Unity is the reason they changed the formula in the first place, it is the culmination of all the worst aspects of the series up to that point, collected and thrown at the wall to see what would stick. It is a bloated, glitchy boring mess of a game that is aggressively unpleasant to play at the best of times.

They're both games that suffer issues with serious repetition but I have to say I found Syndicate a bit more fun whereas Unity (post-patch) is probably the better game, if that makes any sense.

Protagonists in Syndicate are more fun and the train-base was a fun concept. Arno from Unity is a bit of a wet blanket.

If I had to pick, Syndicate is probably the more fun experience. Unity can also be a bit overwhelming as it was peak "side-activities" Ubisoft.

Cool, that's me gone off Unity so. Might keep a lookout for Ezio collection if it goes cheap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,495 ✭✭✭✭martyos121

Ezio Collection, Unity and Syndicate are all great in their own right. Just don't do what I did and play them all back-to-back, you'll want to take a hidden blade to your neck by the time you finish Syndicate.

To answer the question though, I'd also recommend Syndicate between the two. Not without its flaws, but it felt way more fun and there's a great sequence of missions I won't spoil later in the game that changes the setting a little. And the Jack the Ripper DLC is also superb, as Zero said.

Unity is one of the worst AC games they've ever made, I'd go with Syndicate as its set in London, has a very good story and the gameplay is solid, it does repeat sometimes but Unity is far worse and was aimed more for 4 player online co-op and is 2 years older. Plus the Syndicate DLC is fun.

Unity is one of the best AC I’ve played. Even to this day it looks unreal and it’s got the best parkour out of all the series. The game gets a lot of stick for how badly it was when it released but I played it a few months after when it was all patched up and had no problems with it. Also found the co-op very enjoyable as well. I’d recommend both Unity and Syndicate, two very good AC games imo.

Apparently Syndicate is suppose to run really badly on PS5 as well, a lot of visual glitches.

Ah, I'd be playing it on the PS5 so that's a no for me then. I think I'll leave both games so. Thanks everyone for the answers.

Have you played Black Flag? If not, I'd recommend it above any other game in the series, even 2.

It's one of the games specifically called out by Sony as having issues on PS5 so definitely a huge caveat.

I’d pick up Unity if I was you, it’s only a tenner and you’ll more than get your worth out of it. The expansion pass Dead Kings was released for free as well.

Feck it, I'll give it a go. It's interesting to see people calling it both the best and worst AC game ever made. It seems to be a hugely divisive game. I never played more than a couple of hours of AC here and there so we'll see how it goes.

Whoever said Unity is the best has no standards, that game is still to this day and awful buggy mess. The shoehorned in co-op and abysmal litter filled map.

    Enjoy man!

The triple pack is on offer as well for €20 come with Black Flag, Unity and Syndicate. That’s a great price for those three games.

It’s not divisive at all, its generally considered to be the worst by most that have played it. If I said that Colonial Marines was good it wouldn’t make that piece of **** divisive, it would mean I’m a nutjob.

Do you ever get tired of being so aggressively right about everything? Here is the opinion, and it is the right one.

Christ, I don't know... I was just looking for an either or recommendation. People were giving diametrically opposed opinions on it and looking further afield you have passionate defenders and the harsh critics of the game possible so to me it looks like it's a divisive game.

You'd swear I'd shít in people's cornflakes for even bringing up the game the way some people are going on.

Sorry if it came of harsh but everything I said is true.

And everyone else. Don't act like you know me, you don't. You see a few words here and there on this page, that's it. :D

If your interested in both Black Flag and Syndicate the store has a triple pack with Unity. I picked it up a few years back for like €15, bargain.

Half the time there are some good offers on the sales but if looking for deals on PS5 games, the US store is usually cheaper

Has anyone played Naught? €5 and looks a quirky little 2d platformer, similar style to Limbo maybe?

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,775 ✭✭✭bmorrissey

Not quite a bargain more than a double edge sword, but prices have soared for PS4 games in CEX, way above what im gonna pay for alot of them (38 euro for fifa 21, fcuk that) but since selling prices are higher, so are trade ins. I pretty much got my money back for DOOM eternal and RE3 so that worked out pretty well

Looking to buy The Walking Dead Definitive Edition digitally. What's the cheapest place to buy a key outside of ps store.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,910 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

World War Z is 7.50 in the sale, lowest it's ever been. Plus there is an expansion releasing in September for 40 euro but it's 20 if you own the base game. Anyone interested can get the whole lot for 27.50 and there is a free next gen upgrade early next year. PS Now has a free 7 day trial at the moment and this is on it, finding it a good laugh solo but would be way better with friendlies.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,910 ✭✭✭✭Zero-Cool

Last reminder on World War Z before it goes back to 30 euro tomorrow. 7.50 is such a bargain for this, just playing with Eoin and Deadly and it was some craic.

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,157 ✭✭✭Markitron

Tempted by Vanquish, haven't played it since it launched on PS3

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,125 ✭✭✭EoinMcLovin

Yeah I had played it on the 360. It's pretty much the same game with a bit better graphics, good game though. I had got it with Bayonetta and I couldn't even get past the tutorial mission in Bayonetta even though I had completed the original game, the controls aren't great or I'm just old 😁

Gonna get This is the Police 2 for 6 quid. Loved the first one but the xcom style missions in 2 put me off trying.... until i tried xcom and discovered i loved it so that's a no brainer for me now.

For anyone near Belfast, B&M have the Dual Sense PS5 Controller for £35. I picked up one at the Westwood SC. Plenty left.

Dishonored 2 for €2.99 - that's a crazy price. Only ever did the Corvo playthrough before trading it in. Going to have to pick it up and do the other playthrough at that price.

  • Registered Users Posts: 2,110 ✭✭✭The Raging Bile Duct

I picked it up in the end because I figured I wasn't going to get too burnt by paying a tenner but God, it's a mediocre game. The parkour is completely unenjoyable for the most part - it almost never seems to have the same idea as me when it comes to the route I want to take over the buildings - when you play something like Spiderman and you have the joy of traversing the city quickly and easily, Unity feels so lumpen and awkward. The missions are very dull and I couldn't give two shíts about the tepid storyline. I accidentally unlocked the area for the Dead Kings DLC early on and I ended up getting stuck there and couldn't leave it until I completed the first two missions. That at least was a bit more of a challenge as the enemies felt very overpowered compared to me. I ended getting a musket type gun from those first two DLC missions that now has me completely overpowered against the normal enemies back in the main game. I played maybe 10 hours or so, sticking to the main game and avoiding all the extraneous nonsense that makes the map look like it's dying from a very nasty bout of smallpox but I haven't played it in about three weeks which is a sure sign that I'm probably not going to go back to it.

Now imagine all that except without the months and months of patches, so it is buggy AF and runs terribly. That’s what it was like for people that played it in 2014.

The current narrative that is somehow the most ‘pure’ and ‘actual next-gen’ AC is complete and total bollox. If people don’t like the new direction that AC took that is absolutely fine, but don’t go putting the game that caused it in the first place on a pedestal.
