    Ah cop on.

Exactly they had no business going on a ski trip to an infected area, then lwt back into the population and spread it.

    No cop on whatsoever.

Plenty went before the situation was bad.

He probably told him Santa wasn't real while he was at it.
Believing in santa and the Easter bunny (as my son still does charmingly enough) puts nobody at risk of death.

J1 visa types who go skiing in February that knowingly brought this into the country. When this is over, there needs to be repercussions for these people. Be great if we could charge them with manslaughter.

    This makes no sense?

Charge people who go to America during the summer with manslaughter, because some people who are the same age went skiing?

Why not charge all parents with manslaughter too, because some parents were skiing in Italy.

    You're ridiculous.

The pasta virus has hit Lidl mitchelstown.

This happens because shops are ordering based on average sales of products not this end of the world shopping. What we may see is a slight bump in their stock but quotas applied to some products as no business can stock at this continued level of lunacy.

Museums and such have begun closing. Mater begins cancellations. The process of changing from containment is underway.

What an idiotic post. With views like that you should be banned for life from any contact with social media to stop you spreading nonsense to those gullable enough to believe everything they read or hear.

Going on a ski trip in February, when there was 3 cases?

I presume you haven't been outdoors/ met any other person since we've had three cases here, based on your logic?

Absolutely not, flew in on Monday and it was the same as a standard day. Colleagues say the same for later in the week.

Flew in an out of London yesterday. 6am - 8am was about half as busy as normal and 8pm last night was dead quiet.

12 people on outbound flight and 10 people on the return flight.

    A lot quieter than usual...

After saying yesterday that my local Dunnes had plenty of everything, including loo roll, formula and paracetamol, last night was like the end of days. Loads of empty shelves and queues half way down the aisles (it’s a huge Dunnes). It was worse than the Saturday before Christmas.

If there’s one industry sector than can afford to pay their staff if they’re off, it’ll be supermarkets. They must have taken two months worth of turnover in the last week.

Those who spread fear and panic during this event should be up for punishment beatings when its all over.

Things are definitely busier today, people seem to have woken up after the word pandemic was used. Gov, media etc should have been highlighting that in countries in actual lockdown people were still able to get supplies etc.

Now people are going out mixing in large numbers panic buying.

I was in supervalu in firhouse last night and the only things they didnt have were pasta and bog roll.

I don't understand the thing about bog roll though. You're not going to **** yourself to death if you get this.

They did not know it was infected when they arrived there, and those carriers did not know they were. Now you cop on.

The first death was always going to trigger this.

People lambast the Irish government for not realizing specific locals of infections, but they’ve done well mitigating panic to date. First death was always going to be a big trigger though.

Next will be a local death.

well then it's impossible to make any sense of those figures. Utterly meaningless,.

That's the point. By grouping pneumonia into the "mild and moderate" you can't really tell where a flu starts and pneumonia ends!

Chinese CDC had a duty to not spread panic and keep the show on the road.

So anybody quotes 80% will be grand, ask them is pneumonia grand?

Fed up with misinformation and government hiding behind stats to keep people calm.

We need a change in behaviour to change outcomes!

Only read now that the death yesterday wasn’t one of the confirmed cases and was intact only discovered upon her death? This was most likely posted last night but did not expect that

Anyone (non US citizen) coming from a shengen area in the previous 14 days won't be allowed travel to the US

And how will they know they are coming from Schengen? You don’t get your passport stamped within the EU.

Nice to see Turkey taking semi-appropriate measures at tourist ingress points.

Turkey is also not testing possible cases in the country, and ignoring people crossing the Iranian border into the country from the east. Turkey is in for a real shock in about 3 weeks when people start dropping dead in droves.
One of the reasons I've seen discussed is that higher numbers make Edrogan look bad (similar to that Trump idiot's viewpoint) so there's severe unstated pressure to not test those with viral pneumonia or respiratory failure for COVID-19. Can't have big numbers if there's no community testing done..

If Turkey were to have a proper testing regime and open number publication, I would think they are about at UK percentages. The poorer areas in the East will start first, but when it reaches Istanbul it'll be a very interesting state to watch.

I disagree. Erdogan have more pressing priorities . I spoke to a family friend who works at a university hospital which is known to be anti government. She is a highly regarded doctor in her area (infection) in Turkey. She said that theres no way that they can hide the numbers and that over 2500 samples have been tested so far. Besides I dont think this would make Erdogan look bad when everybody else ,especially EU screwed up big time. Time will show obviously but i know for a fact that they took more appropriate actions very early.

I predicted our politicians would start using "Its all very well with the benefit of hindsight". to defend their inaction of recent weeks.
Its a line trotted out whenever they spectacularly mess things up.
Some people did have foresight. They were ignored by many. Lack of hindsight does not excuse poor decision making.

don't be silly, have you seen the size of the lidl distribution center in charleville ?The shops that have plenty of stock can't keep it on the shelves it's selling so fast. Anything with a long shelf life. People have rooms full of food in their houses

Big clue will be a passport issued by a Schengen country.

I expect holders of such passports will be asked to show bank transactions etc.

There's also the threat of deportation and a ban from future US travel for anyone that does manage to sneak through.

Why are people buying so much toilet roll? It seems to be the only think some people are buying. I don't get it.

"If your company is in Paris (intramuros), and it has 250 employees, today there’s a 0.85% chance that one of your employees has the coronavirus, and by tomorrow it will be 1.2%, so if you’re only comfortable with a 1% chance, you should close your office by tomorrow."

That article needs a health warning and is not for those who are very anxious about all of this. Lots of good data, too much really, and analysis but could have done without some of the alarmist, frantic prose.

Many people were warning about it though. Not only it was predictable looking at the theory (some people did as early as January), but 3 weeks ago we had China and Korea in front of us as practical exemples.

And even now, with Italy as yet another exemple, we are not reacting here.

You can't blame people who went skiing there 3 weeks ago, but you can blame governments and the media for stressing the information (ironically as they were critiquing China for doing the same thing a months before). Those who went skiing to Italy as recently as last week and came back sick though ... yeah not the smartest people
