    Help Needed!!

We are a small business and changed landline/broadband from eir to vodafone 2 weeks ago. Since this changeover we can only receive calls from numbers that are on the vodafone network. we can make calls to all networks just fine. Our old line with eir was coming in through the plug on the wall however that line is now dead and our phone is now plugged into the telephone port at the back of the vodafone modem. We have a compatable cordless panasonic phone so this is not the issue. We dont have gigabit broadband, it is 100 meg coming through the dsl. Vodafone customer care has been very unhelpful and dont seem to have any idea how to fix the issue. As its a business line we are loosing a lot of revenue over this issue. Any suggestions of how to resolve the issue are welcome. Thanks for taking the time to read....

It sounds like a routing issue between Vodafone and other suppliers. I presume you have rang the number from other providers mobiles and landlines, what tones are you getting, is it a busy tine or what is called a triad tone( three high level tones). Triad is number unobtainable which indicates you phone is not listed on the routing system.

Not sure but asking if your number was or needed porting over from previous provider

They’ve screwed up the porting process!

Numbers in Ireland are ported between networks by changing an entry on a database that’s managed by a 3rd party company called PortingXS.

It’s a bit like a DNS record on the internet. When you dial a number, your phone company’s switch (exchange) consults a shared and synchronised database which tells it where to route the call.

If database hasn’t been amended correctly, you’d be able to dial the number on your network (Vodafone) but the other networks wouldn’t be able to locate the number and would be routing traffic to a dead end. The call would be sent to the old network and it would have no idea what to do with it, so would return an error / unknown number message.

    Outgoing calls would be unaffected.

Vodafone need to redo the porting process, as they clearly have had some kind of technical glitch which has resulted in them not updating the database.

Tell them to send a message to their internal tech support and re-do the number porting or you will be making a formal complaint and logging it with ComReg. Two weeks is ridiculous! The process is designed to be seamless.
