Quotes. Pray for this or that. Clean eating. Wedding inspiration. People making sneery memes about what women are wearing/their makeup. Apolitical people talking about politics. People from my past or distant relatives trying to be "friends" with me.

I don't get twitter. I opened an account and found it headache inducing. I much prefer forums such as boards where you can follow a thread. Twitter was too fast paced for me and I gave up after a week or so.

I hate the falseness of it and also that people can actually stalk you. I'm no longer on Facebook and I'm not on twitter/instagram.

I get funny looks when I say I'm not on Facebook!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,239 ✭✭✭Jimbob1977

    Hashtags

Changing profile pics to France or Germany or the rainbow flag

People supporting Bernie Sanders with no idea about his policies and no clue about politics whatsoever

Expressions like manspreading, fat shaming, safe space, slut walk, binary sexuality, gender fluid, more letters being added to LGB...TQI

    Trout pouts

I left Facebook too, and I don't miss it for a minute! It's refreshing to be done with the thing.
Also hated the falseness of it. The perfect kids photos, little Billy taking his first steps, the amazing holiday in wherever etc etc. Put the camera down and live life! Rant over:)

Oh and on Twitter, when people follow and then unfollow just to bump up their numbers! Pathetic!!

Exactly the same. I'm almost a year off it and it is really refreshing. I'll never go back to it.

Type 'Amen' and you'll have a miracle performed in 7 days.
Scroll past this horrific picture and you're a dick.
Facebook will start charging from tomorrow on.
Facebook will make all posts public because it was on Channel 13.
I like twitter for a wee rant about tv shows but that's about it.
ALL the former fatty 'blogs'. Everyone is a ****ing blogger.
    Clickbait.
My acquaintances children having Facebook pages that their parents set up for them when they're 10 years old.

I mostly just hate what social media has become. When I joined MySpace over ten years ago it was the biggest social networking site at the time, and it was tons more fun that what Facebook is now. You could post any old crap and not have to worry about offending relatives. With the growth of social media it just brought with it too much noise. Having to sift through a newsfeed of utter crap from people you don't really care about and eventually blocking them is not my idea of social media.

Honestly, I hate social media. I understand millions like it and that's OK. It's opinion. But my opinion is that the likes of Twitter especially has given a platform for idiots and utterly pc morons.

Never really clicked with social media. My farmville lies dead and withered (does farmville still even exist?) My ninjas and pirates and assassins have all retired. I..heard of candy crush. Couldn't actually say for sure if it's a Facebook thing or a phone thing. I'll have a brief spurt of posting and catching up with people on Facebook, and then ignore it for six months. Was an early user of both Bebo and LinkedIn though.

I so backed the wrong horse on Bebo v Facebook. :D

...actually, is the ninja and pirate game still around?

Yesterday me and 2 friends went up a place called Cardiac Hill in Killarney, our first time up, got to the top, had a look around and headed back down, none of us gave a 2nd thought about posting it on social media. On the way up, we passed a girl I know, this morning she posted a picture of her at the top with 6 hashtags of **** like #nevergiveup etc and people commenting saying "oh well done, marvelous acheivement"

People posting pictures on them using Snapchat filters on Facebook, you're not funny or original.

People posting up a new profile picture, and around 20 comments of "you look amazing hun" when the picture is of you layered in make up and your pigsty of a room in the background.

People checking in everywhere...zero is the amount of ****s I give about hat restaurant you are at or what pub you're drinking everything alcoholic at

Like almost everything, social media has its benefits and drawbacks.

One of its main drawbacks is that it tends to emphasize human stupidity, the best example of which is that crazy trend a year or two ago involving people setting themselves on fire as some kind of challenge.

    ...

That's what I hate the most about social media :pac: it's people bigging themselves up and posting crap.
But no one cares what you do.

The whole where you are and what you are doing. You are not a celebrity so no one gives a shīte where you've checked in to.

I think when your mother or father join falsebook it's time to close it up.

It gives people a voice, who really shouldn't have a voice.

If that's dry humour from Richard (the man who really should have a voice) Hillman, then nice one.

    If not, I disagree.
I think the one - and possibly only - good thing about social media is the fact that everyone can have their say and voice their opinions regardless of age, socio-economic grouping, formal education, race, religion, gender etc.......ok so most contributions, including my own possibly, are nothing more than a steaming pile of dogshìt.
But at least we're all free to have our say in public now.......it's good to talk.

I use facebook. I never look at my own page, and almost never follow posts back to anyone else's home page. I am a member of a couple of groups that are of specific interest and I follow them, and I have a couple of groups with friends that we use for specific interests. There are things about fb that are a bit irritating, but I just don't get involved with people's personal stuff.

Anything about social media that I 'hate', I just don't go there. I don't have a clue about twitter, never use it though I have an account.

    Social media.
How many people write letters anymore?
Instead there is this - two fingered typing, spell-checked, dubious grammar - electronic script that will be forgotten or deleted in a day.

People constantly posting selfies of themselves in the gym with stupid poses tensing etc. which is nearly always followed by the hashtags fitfam gymlife etc. We know you go to the gym daily and have a good physique but do you have to remind us every ****ing day of your gainz and the meals you eat!

Vague posting that comes with the Are you ok hun? crap, Trolls who hide behind a pseudonym posting derogatory comments. Celebs with their sponsored sh1te posts on social media annoy me too. 9 times out of 10 they don't use the products themselves. Last but not least, people who go out of their way to be offended by the most stupid of things.

Narcissistic tendencies in most humans brought out and encouraged. I'm nearly 20, so it's rather difficult not being on social medias (We have a college year group where you find out things pretty fast), but Christ is it difficult not to read the things people post, look at the photos they post and just think 'if only they had stopped for a moment before they posted and thought about how self centred they are coming across'

Now I know it's not the reason for the thread but worth noting there is some great stuff about social medias too.

Profile pic changes every five seconds.

Having to wish someone a happy birthday every day.

Conspiracy theorist bullcac and/or homeopathy "cures" and pseudoscience presented as fact.

    Inspirational, deep, memes.

Impeccably staged, but spontaneous, life moments every few minutes.

    Essentially facebook.

It gotta be facebook (aka nosebook)

    The duckfaces (you look horrible)
    The selfies (nobody GAF)
The pictures of the lunches the facebooker is eating.....seriously ? why the f would you think anyone is remotely interested in what your lunch looks like..
It's just a matter of time and then we'll get " here's a pic of yesterdays lunch in the bowl, before I flush it "
Reply would be " OMG hun, looks a bit scuttery "

    Please, STFU and stop !
