    Hi,
Huxam freesat box won't show any channels, message "the receiver is not receiving a signal or the signal is too weak."
Recordings work, tried connections, turning off and on, different channels.
    Anyone have any ideas please?
    Thanks,
    Pa

Most likely dish has moved given the recent weather. There could also be a possbility that either ends of the cable going from the lnb on the dish to the Humax box have come loose but if you have dual cables going in to the box the chances of both going together would be extremely remote. Total failure of LNB could be another possible but rule out the simple stuff first.

    It came back by itself.
    Cheers.

Perhaps water ingress on the connections with the lnb, if the dish is easily accessable would be an idea to check they are tight and tape around them is sealed.

It was a loose connection at the back. I was away so was communicating with my wife via text.
Mother in law is visiting so happy that it came back.

    Here's a weird one.
If the signal is better during heavy rain then it's possibly a tree in the way.
The extra weight of the water keeping the branches down.

I didn't want to set up a new thread so hope it's ok to piggyback on this one.

Just trying to set up my new Humax Freesat box (to replace my sky + box which works perfectly) however when I was going through the set up it can't pick up a signal. I'm based in the west coast of Ireland so I'm wondering is the new box more sensitive to the signal strength than the old one. I just presumed it was a matter of swapping over the satilitte cables and Bob's your uncle. Wifey is not going to be a happy camper if I've messed this up.

Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

So I've connected Sky back up and I'm getting the following reading, any ideas?

Try putting the cable from Input 2 on the Sky box into Input 1 on the Freesat box, and I1 into I2.

Reset the Freesat box and start the install process again.

Looks Ok. What strength/quality does the Humax show?

The two cables should go to LNB1 In and LNB2 In. Do not connect anything to LNB1 Out.

Thanks, how do I reset the Freesat box to go through the setup process again?

No idea but setting it up from scratch the 2nd time worked, signal strength was excellent.

One thing I noticed is that the picture quality seems to be a lot sharper than sky HD if that's possible.
    What was the problem?

Both will be receiving the exact same signal (when tuned to a Freesat channel, obviously) so that's not it.

If the Sky HD box is old then it's possible that the chipset gives a poorer result when fed the same input than a modern chipset can. It should decode to the same output but it's then possible (given enough processing power, which older boxes didn't have) to apply optimisations / smoothing / etc to the decoded picture.

Edit: do catch-up functions work at all? I have two of the older Foxsat-HDR boxes and the BBC iPlayer never worked due to being locked to the UK only (and the BBC no longer support iPlayer on these older boxes) but the Channel4 and ITV players work fine. The OH was a bit miffed the other night when a recording of Corrie was missed, but I pointed her towards the ITV player which worked perfectly, and didn't even have any ads! The day was saved :)

I changed the DNS using a trial from company that rhymes with Netflix.

I tried out all the UK catch up services and all worked bar channel 4, must look into that tonight.

One great thing I liked was that you can go back a week or so on the main menu to view the available programs you might have missed and when you select one it brings you directly to the prog on the catch up player.

I couldn't find anything to help get C4OD to work on the Humax which is strange as it works fine on my computer.

I have a Humax HDR 1100s and it often says signal too weak. I then go into settings & check the strength and it always shows good signal & then the box starts working normally.

It's annoying because it misses recordings & stuff
