On the lookout for a replacement car.
What's the opinion on these engines?
Are they preferred over the 1.6 PSA.

Ford have a new diesel engine 1.5 (120 b.h.p.) which is regarded as being very good - more powerful and smoother than the older 1.6. The Nissan 1.5 (110 b.h.p.) unit is very reliable but much older. It also powers Renault and Dacia models.

Cheers budget is only 5k max, so wouldn't be anything too new. I see good value in meganes with the 1.5 engine. Plenty of 2010s for that price.

Don't go near the 1.5 dCi if buying used. Extended service intervals don't do it any favours.

If you want diesel, a Ceed 1.4 or Corolla 1.4 would be my choice.

And do they share the same motor?
Honestly it doesn't need to be diesel. I'm borderline with mileage. In fact I'm probably in the petrol category at the minute.

No, different manufacturers. That Renault Megane looks very good value to me.

THE Kia Ceed would be a 1.6 diesel. 1.4 didn’t come on them till a few years ago.

That engine is very good, the pressure plate on the clutch can go bad after about 160k but you can easily tell if driving one as it will crunch going into reverse.

The 1.4 petrol in the Ceed is very good too.
