It's a start but it should have been an actual custodial sentence that a man would have received if he did rape.

A great bit of justice. It'll make women think twice before crying wolf.

She should be put on the sex offenders register and have to pay compensation to the poor gentleman whose life she could have ruined. I hope this poor gentleman gets over his ordeal and gets on with his life.

The real problem with that is that it's an insult to all women who have genuinely been raped, and a slap in the face to those who feel too scared to report it.

    Glad she's been named, though.

Everything I don't like is either woke or fascist - possibly both - pick one.

Given that she wrote that before the Spacey and Weinstein accusations, she's pretty much been proven wrong.

The next time she does it she'll be in right trouble cause she'll get double the amount of suspended sentences.

Considering the amount of scumbags walking the streets of this country everyday with 50+ convictions this sentence isn't really surprising. I won't go as far as to say crime pays but it certainly doesn't hinder lots of people that commit them

Pretty obvious, but if you have to ask....

Your suggestion that she be given the sentence he would have received is not justice, it's poetic justice and has no place whatsoever. No way should those crimes betrayed the same.

It's like slander but much more serious. You could get her to sign the defamation offenders register perhaps?

I would say the trauma to the victim of the false accusation is also the real problem.

Oh. absolutely - and THIS is why you don't name accused people before accusations. If it was me, I'd waive anonymity and proceed with a civil case against the girl.

I do have to ask. The op stated a fact ,that was reported in the nationalnal press. Are you insinuating that he/she has an ulterior motive ?.

She had regret sex. Bad regret sex. The kind of stuff that makes you hate yourself.
She could have gone home and hid under the covers feeling like her life was a nightmare. And swearing that she won’t let it happen again.
    But she didn’t.
When she was still drunk she went to the Garda Station and made up a load of **** to deflect the self loathing and disgust into someone else. So she could feel like a victim instead of a piece of crap.
It all got out of control .
She didn’t give a **** about how someone else’s life could be destroyed by her lies.
She deserves to go to prison.

Probably knew the guy and had a grudge against him.

Years ago a local lad got accused by a girl with down syndrome of rape. Caused quite the stir in the small country community and faced a lot of abuse over it not to mention criminal investigation.

Eventually she admitted she had made it up as she fancied him and he always said hello and talked to her when he saw her. Totally innocent.

To this day he still gets taunted about it in the local pub when one of the local alcos has one too many and if you didnt know the story itd be easy to believe it was true. Im not saying she should have been jailed as she didnt have the mental capacity to realise the conseqences of her accusation but for a woman who does have that capacity the sentence should be custodial....he's still dealing with it years later and all because he was friendly.

3 and a half years for a man accused of rape for not putting on a condom when he was told to, where otherwise the sex would have been consensual.....2 and a half years suspended sentence for a woman accusing rape which was a total lie.....hardly appropriate sentencing given the nature of the offence.

Probably knew the guy and had a grudge against him.

She didn’t know him at all, the guy who was a suspect.
She had sex with an ex she ran into on a drunken night out, in a car park, how romantic.
She didn’t accuse him, she said she’d been raped by a Pakistani in a green hoodie.
On CCTV she was spotted with a guy walking behind her in a green hoodie, a Czech guy. She’d never even spoken to him.
He was questioned and was hours away from being arrested and charged.
    Poor cnut.
Further CCTV showed her with the guy she had consensual sex with.
She only admitted her lies then.

Reading the report it lacks in detail but assuming that she knowing lied and it was aimed deliberately.

She deliberately tried to take away someones liberty by lying.
You do not think knowingly trying to send someone to prison in itself warrants a prison sentence?

There is a reason perjury is taken so seriously....

Considering the case up north at the moment this woman needed to be made an example of - It seems these are getting way too common.

I was addressing the eye for an eye nature of the suggested punishment. She should be punished according to her crime. Not the crime she accused him of

If you mean what I think you mean, that comment is ill-judged. That case is ongoing and until the jury delivers it's decision, both parties deserve due process.

We can debate right and wrong once the jury decides but I think it is inappropriate to do so before then. Juries are warned not to read papers or social media, discuss the case with anybody other than their fellow jurors, etc.

I think your comment is exactly why they are so advised.

these cases are in no way similar, not even mildly. for starters, the suspect in this case (the green hoodie guy) never had sex with the girl at all. and there was only one. in the other case the fact they had sex has been openly admitted and bragged about by the several men accused.

I've had 6 women (close friends or exes) reveal to me they were raped in the past, and none of them reported it to police at the time they happened. Attitudes like yours are far more harmful to society IMO than this isolated case that was quickly unravelled.

Anyone who thinks this case should be held up as some indicator of the prevalence of false rape claims is a special kind of primate. I'd say the number of unreported sexual assaults dwarf the number of false assault claims by a massive, massive margin.
