Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 (/pro) [WHYRED][China/Global] ***(Please read first post)***

Preparing this thread for the upcoming Global Version release of the Redmi Note 5, with Band 3,7 and 20 Support!

Note: - The thread will be mainly for discussion of that particular device, but if your posting about one of the alternative versions, please state the version you have, or incorrect advice might be given to you.

    Device Variations: -
Redmi Note 5 [India]: - is just a re-branded china Redmi 5 plus
Redmi Note 5 Pro [India]: - Similar device lacking Band 20 and variation in Camera's used.
Redmi Note 5 [China]: - Same as device you should be getting but lacks Band Support.
Redmi Note 5A:- Cheap entry level device and not a true successor to the note series.

    Possible places to Order: -
(Check listings for Band Support and right variation of device)

    Xiaomi Official Amazon Spain.
Aliexpress: - Hong Kong Goldway and Mi Global Store (DHL is tax free for EU customers)
EU Warehouse form: - Honorbuy or alternative retailers.
The Solution Shop: - Use with caution, they had logistics problem lately, late filling orders and reports of bad CS.
Check other recommend retailers in this thread or reddit wiki!

Why you should be getting the Global version over China/India Version?

The global version will support Bands 3,7 and 20 for LTE coverage in the EU. (Band 3 & 20(800)) are the versions used here. Although the other variations will work here in cities but may not get LTE in the country locations.

I will repeat myself, check the specs carefully before ordering.

When will the Global Version be available to buy? When to Buy?

At the date/time of this post, it is only rumored to be made available soon.
Some sites, had place holder listings up the week prior to China release, so be careful who a where you order from, they may try to pass a China/India version as a global version, and you could risk vendor roms as well.
Contact the seller of the device before ordering for verification or post a link and ask in this thread.

I would be waiting a Month or two, for prices to stabilize and globally availability!

    Final Words

Thought I would start this thread, as is suspect this will be a popular device. Also to clarify a few good points beforehand. Hope it helps you in your purchase choice.

My Redmi Note 3 Pro [Kenzo] is still serving me well, so I will probably wait until July/August to purchase and see what custom rom support is available.

    EDIT - 15/07/2018

    Warning! MIUI 10 Oreo's Anti-Rollback Feature.

Do not update your rom past
    Beta 8.7.5 or Stable 9.5.17,
if you want to enjoy custom roms or avoid bricking your devices. And also avoid flashing newer firmware.

Both device's using the same code name WHYRED

China version as mentioned before has not got USB Type C, but will have Oreo!

If it has support for Treble is another thing, as china version doesn't use Google Play Services. So the device may not need to support it.

Hopefully they base the global version on china version!

Only India models are made there, so global will be CN based.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro Android 8.1 Oreo update can now be flashed on Indian model, brings Project Treble support

As above - confusion as to which phone is which - as per the link in this article, this phone is on already on Tomtop - €472.76~

China version went on sale today! Confirmed 8.1 Oreo with Treble Support!

    Thanks @GBX for XDA link.

Also confirmed the China and India version both share the same codename "WHYRED" so roms should be compatible for both.

Looking forward to this device. Probably going to be my next upgrade.

Edit: Any sites have the Pro listed yet? I've seen a few listings that look like a mix between the Note 5 and Note 5 pro.

BUYER BEWARE! Aliexpress Sale for RN5[Global].

Two minds if to mention this at all.

Xiaomi Online Store has the Global Device Listed with incorrect specs. (Not an official xiaomi store)

Multiple errors in there listing for Global Version.
    • Camera is Indian version.
    • Android 7 instead of Oreo.
    • No Dual Sim support
Two CDMA SIM cards cannot work at the same time (when one chooses 4G Network, the other SIM card has no Signal.)

Never trusted them since they use to label themselves as "Xiaomi Authorized Store"

Also no VAT free shipping for EU, so any savings of the sale, would be over written with VAT fees.

Tips: Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Global Version has not arrived, it is pre-sale for now.
    Expected 24 April starting shipping

The idea to get the reduced price on day of sale, is to put in your cart before the 28th. And also get a select coupon for the store to reduce the price more.

Edit: - Also aliexpress is known to inflate the price to make the appearance of a sale/deal!

    __________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

    Edit 2: -

[XDA] Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro can now dual boot ROMs with MultiROM
XDA Forum Thread: - MultiROM [Whyred]

^^^^ Should also work with the China/Global version of the device.

Cheers - that's the redmi 5 plus. Xiaomi really know how to confuse the masses with their models:

You have ordered a different device to what this thread is about.

Your link is for the Redmi 5 Plus [HM5Plus / vince] (without Note), which is sold as a Redmi Note 5 in India. Hence the Pro extension to this model in India.

The Redmi Note 5(/pro)[WHYRED] is much better spec device than the one you ordered.

You won't find one yet, as the global version with Band 20 (800) has yet to be launched.

Some resellers have pre-order listings for it, but lacking in specs and bands!

Also another reseller has a listing for Chinese versions again lacking Bands.

    Any sign of NFC?

I believe that the Mi Mix 2 and newer 2S have it, although they're in a different price bracket.
My point being though is that Xiaomi do offer NFC on some smartphones.

It may not be a deal breaker for some, and vice versa.

Redmi Note 5 Glide in Indonesia April 18th , Wear Double Camera? <<< Translate with chrome.
This is known from the Facebook page Mi Indonesia on this afternoon, Tuesday (3/4/2018). Account boasted that many have asked about the presence of Redmi Note 5 in Indonesia. "There are many who asked when to come, ya he who will come on April 18, 2018! Share if you're already patient! # RedmiNote5 , "said the admin of Mi Indonesia.

No NFC in the China or India version, so very unlikely it will be in the global version. Same goes for USB Type C!

Ok, so thats Geárbest and Bángood that have presale now. Should start to see more listings coming through.

Im not overly pushed on NFC, I have managed without it on my current phone. Yeah it would be nice but cant have everything in this sort of price point for a phone.

The Global Version when released (18th of April) (Not referring to global rom) should have support for Band 20(800)!

Xiaomi have a track record of releasing multiple versions of there devices for different markets.

e.g. RN3 (Kenzo and Kate) and RN4 had multiple versions as well

    https://www.reddit.com/r/Xiaomi/wiki/general/versions

Check description (or confirm with seller) when ordering.

Note:- Some resellers have pre-order listings with incomplete specs.

What's the likely price range for the Note 5 Global version?

Would 180 to 200 be realistic for for the Global Note 5?

The Global Redmi 5 plus is coming in around the 160 euro mark. I see some AliExpress stores have the Global Note 5 at 260 pre-sale.

At a guess and estimate based on aliexpress prices (not including shipping): -

    3/32gb ~~~~ €190.00
    4/64gb ~~~~ €220.00
    6/64gb ~~~~ €270.00

Paying approx €50 more for an extra 2gb ram is probably not worth it for the 6gb ram.

Allot of the prices listed are just placeholder prices and inflated allot.
The initial round of sales will probably also have inflated prices. Give it a Month or two for the prices and stocks to stabilize.

The redmi note 4 was a very popular phone and good value for the money. And can still be got for a low price.

being honest I have no idea about all these different brands of phones and just want one that will do the job, you know basic apps camera , msgs, calls, nothing crazy no changing OS's or anything haha. my HTCM8 right now currently turns off at 40% battery and even higher percentages if i use the flash or 3g so I sort of want to get a new phone soon for around 250euros max

You would be better off with an MIA1.Newer phone, slightly better camera, running stock android with regular updates

@NATLOR The Redmi Note 5 [China/Global][WHYRED] has a better camera than the RN5Pro[India][WHYRED] which in itself is all round better camera than Mi A1.

Also better processor (636 vs 625), but for stock android Mi A1 is a good choice.

How come I'd be better off with that over a note 5 or 4?

    Hey Corkie,
Thanks for all your posts in this forum.

Do you reckon custom ROM support for the WHYRED will be as good as for the other Xiaomis?
I was all set to buy the A1 till I saw the specs for the WHYRED, but slightly apprehensive about not getting on with MIUI..

Haven't used a custom ROM since Cyanogen - I presume Lineage is the main one to look into?

As already post in the thread, the device is Treble compatible which should make it easy to switch to a supported GSI.

[XDA] How to flash a Generic System Image (GSI) on Project Treble supported devices

[XDA] Generic LineageOS 15.1 and Resurrection Remix ROMs now available for Project Treble compatible devices

Already a MultiRom Port for it, along with an unofficial LineageOS and Resurrection Remix.

Custom roms should be compatible across the different variations [Global/China/India]. Official MIUI have encounter bugs when used on different variation than what the rom is intended for.
