    Rusting body on model 3.

I'd be pissed with this. Shows you how crap the panel gaps are though

While I think it's very bad to see this, as mentioned it could be accident related.

I suspect things have improved regarding gaps and paint too, that car is also well over a year old, one of the first 3s and over 50k miles on it.

I'll certainly be looking over areas like this, maybe a little piece of PPF popped in a few places to stop paint rubbing if needed.

Likwise a spoonful of anti-corrosion treatment in with the detergent when washing.

    It definitely helps on bikes.

Note that this is not a Tesla only issue, I had a very, very expensive Ducati and there was much worse rust than this appearing within weeks, no accidents.

Likewise a BMW after about a year.

Honda, KTM, Kawasaki, no issues after 4+ years.

Mostly Tesla I’d say, I think DC have only registered one so far.

Think Tesla have gotten 10 in to deliver to Day 1 reservation holders.

There could be a clue in this. Beautiful sh1theaps come in all shapes and sizes!

Was over there yesterday and about 10 M3s drove past me back into the Tesla garage at the entrance. The lads said they were just back from detailing ready for collection .
Was great to see the different colors, and mostly P models, love those rims ;)

Interesting, it would be nice if any needed "paint correction" or the like was also being done and that this will be the norm for all cars delivered.

No way will Tesla do the paint correction, this would be a one off for the photo opportunity and the media if any was done. At best us minions would get a showroom finish.

Ya, this looks like 10+ cars and a bit of fanfare...to keep the rest of us at bay until Nov.

It's not pointless. I'm highlighting that poorly built, pretty machines covering that guys Ducati and more than likely this Tesla are everywhere.

I looked at the bare chassis of a Tesla at the Paris Motor Show a couple of years ago and the welds looked like they were done by a child.

They could be the future of transport. But like pretty much every other small (relatively) start up in the automotive industry, they could be doomed to long term failure.

I mean if anything in this thread other than frothily gushing over the Tesla Model 3 is considered not of value than fair enough.

Personally I believe the technology end is fantastic and the styling is beautiful (dash is a bit bare, mind) but I would have concerns over the coach-building aspect. I may be wrong but worries about panel gaps etc don't quell those concerns.

Oh we are down to the quality of the welds now....I can tell you the rear subframe of the e46 BMW was not that well welded....might have been pretty stack of coins but didnt do much good. The top mounts of the Caymen GT4 were not welded that well either....

I think what people are doing is straw man attacks on tesla, where they level complaints against tesla that they happily choose to ignore in other manufacturers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,247 ✭✭✭✭Lumen

The Model 3 has achieved outstanding crash test results, there's nothing wrong with the strength of the thing.

And Tesla ranked 4th in a recent What Car reliability survey, so that's not an issue either.

There are plenty of things to dislike about Teslas if you go looking, but most of them are side-effects of deliberate design decisions, for efficiency, performance, lightness or cost.

But bitching about weld quality is just troll-level nonsense.

What are you talking about?? The first thing I do every morning is get the gurney out to perv over the welds on my Audi. It's all anyone who compliments the car can talk about too.

I don't though. I already inferred Beemers are sh1te in my first reply. Keep up.

And the Porsche? And the crash tests? And the customer satisification? Are you just here to snipe or for a logical discussion. Are you saying that the welds on a tesla are of a quality below other brands and if so what is your evidence apart from you eyeballing a chassis one time and deciding that.

I can't find them here either, and am not paying £200/$200 for fitted ones on day one, so got some nice heavy duty Michelin ones in Aldi for €15

Has anyone spotted any of the first 11 in the wild - I need to get a SR+ reg plate to jump through the insurance hoop?

First cars now registered according to Motorstat.

    Figures below in attachments.

Now to race to catch one in the wild!

RedorDead - looks like you have live access to the data - any more registered over last day or two? Be interesting to see if they have stopped at the 10.

Think you need to be in SIMI to get day to day date. General public get access to monthly data.

I'm not going to be able to afford one of these for many years, but i certainly looking forward to seeing many of them on the roads now that they are being delivered.

The red one in cork is stunning, but i have to stay i have a soft spot for a white model 3.

Many years of happy motoring to the new owners.

It's quite funny when we are hearing about the thousands arriving elsewhere ... apparently a huge push to shift another 2000 over the weekend in Europe (possibly including UK)!

Cars have to be delivered before the revenue can be accounted for according to US accounting practice. And we all know how incredibly focused the financial world (in the USA) is about short term figures like Q3 result coming up next Thursday. Interesting to see the dynamic of the car deliveries worldwide (apparently China Tesla deliveries are soaring this quarter - and that's before the Chinese Gigafactory is producing any cars) and the impact on the Tesla share price.

Congrats to those who received their cars! How long before the delivery you got the notification from Tesla? Seems like nobody knew about deliveries until last week.

Quick question as we are nearly in October what is the reason people are getting a 192 plate and not waiting till 2020 plate in Jan? Enjoy your new cars people who got them.

People have waited 3+ years for the car which is long enough that what’s on the plate doesn’t matter.

I saw what might have been a red model 3 going through Delgany this morning, but it could have been an S.

To my shame I still have difficulty telling them apart.

Considering the new M3 and most people will keep it for 5+ years.
In 5 years time there will be very little difference between a 192 and 201 same model/spec car.

Be different if there was an LCI or refresh or something like the BMW F10 from 131 to 132 there that may account for a slightly different scenario but in the M3 case I suspect there be little difference.

Then you also have the costs of running a bangernomic in the mean time, maybe tax is up on current car etc
