Central locking issue

Hello all, I'm looking to get your thoughts on a problem I've been having with my car. The front passenger side door lock started giving trouble a couple of months ago; I can open it from the inside but when I use central locking, you can see it's not moving fully so doesn't fully unlock. So I can't open it from the outside. I brought it to the dealer (Ford) and they looked and said it needed a new lock mechanism, at €360. Needless to say I said I'd wait until the new year to get that done, but in the meantime I've noticed the back door on the same side is starting to do similar- not every time but often it doesn't open with central locking, again you can see the lock moving but not fully. It could be an almighty coincidence that both locks on that side give up the fight at the same time, but just wondering if this might be more wiring or something? I don't know anything about the electrics so would be grateful for your thoughts! I know the right thing will be to get it looked at again but it's a few weeks before I can book it in so in the meantime I'm curious :) thanks!

Check the mechanism, it could be just dirty/ need oil, definitely worth a look anyway.

Thanks, you mean for both locks? I presume when they checked the front one in the dealers they checked that but would be great if it turned out to be the problem!!

How sure are you that they really checked the mechanism, did they take the door card off to inspect it?

I didn't see but presumed they did a proper inspection.. They took it into the workshop for a good 20 mins, not that means much. Of course now I'm less certain seeing as the other lock is giving trouble!

What model is it? Does the front door have key access?

Try manually unlocking (if you can) how does the movement feel?

It's a 2013 Mondeo, the passenger door doesn't have key access. It's the type of lock that is like a switch on the door handle from the inside; when I lock or unlock the doors centrally the switch just moves a fraction. Same thing is now happening on the back door

Are you unlocking via fob or the switch itself, how does the switch activation work/feel?

It doesn't unlock using the fob or when I open from the inside of the driver door (which should open all four doors). I can open it from its own handle say, doesn't feel unusual to me..
I'm wondering- not knowing the setup of the electrics- if the two locks on one side are linked somehow, in their wiring maybe? And so maybe the two locks failing might point to issues like that rather than a lock mechanism?

The issue is not from the driver door I take it, then don't worry about that, try each door individually.

I had the same problem with my a4. Local mechanic was able to fix it temporarily but in the end had to stump for the replacement. Happened on driver door first and then rear passenger door. Cost similar to what you were quoted

Thanks for that- so yours was the actual locks then? Seems so crazy that both would go at the same time, I've never had this problem in a car before

Liberally spray both bits you can see trying to move with WD40 and see if that helps.

Had a similar issue years ago on a Ford - because the passenger handles don't get as much use as the driver handle, they started sticking - car would lock and unlock when driving as the mechanism got stuck half between open and close.

WD40 sorted it - cost, nowt as I had a can of WD40.

Yeah. You could hear what sounded like the lock working when using the remote or the physical key the but no resistance when you'd pull the handle. The local guy said the tension could be gone on the cable inside and that worked for a short while but went again. Only full lock replacement sorted it.

Hm, mine feel normal when you open the lock by using the handle itself though, it's only the central locking feature that is a problem. Think I might get a second opinion if I can, the risk of spending over €700 on two new locks if that's not the actual issue is not appealing!!😰
