Often wonder what characters in old tv shows would drive if the programme was set today.

    Keeping up appearances

Kinda think they’d be driving a Jaguar XE or a Mondeo Vignale

    Only fools and horses

    Maybe a Piaggo Ape

    Any more?

KUA - Hyundai Elantra or Kia Cee'd. Edit an i30. It's the Elantra round these parts.

    OFAH - that's a tough one.

Easy, Kia C'eed and a Poxhaul Combo

The Rover was kinda fake posh though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,544 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Mr Bean might like a Toyota Aygo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,597 ✭✭✭✭banie01

OFAH would surely be a Fiat multipla van?

Yeah I think it would have to be a very old expensive brand or more likely the cheapest of the expensive brands.. like the 1st A Class.

Either that or an insignia.. you know like for people that get a company car but .. well not as nice as other people's company cars (hey.. I don't judge if your company is too tight :pac: )

Biddy and Miley wouldn’t be driving a clapped out Jetta anyway

    EFEBA58-D-E25-E-4-FA1-A6-B7-E0-B737-D08-D64.jpg

Tucson and a Ranger crewcab without a doubt.

Agreed, there's no single brand doing that these days. We're into "Vanden Plas" territory to find anything close, so I'm with the OP with his Mondeo Vignale suggestion. Actually come to think of it, can't think of another "posh" mainstream model from any manufacturer, times have changed!

OFAH i could see in a Skoda Felicia Fun aka ute :pac: :D can be had in yellow and all!

I initially thought Jaguar X Type, but the car in KUA was between 4-9 years old in the show.

So many UK Rover drivers bought Kia and Huundai after the collapse of MGR.

I was going to suggest an L&K Octavia before the Kia

I reckon a Honda Civic Hybrid.

Tough one for Mrs bucket since the UK car industry has since died, possibly a Corolla or civic saloon.

    What would Onlsow drive though?

    Onslows_Car.jpg

I can see Del Boy and Rodney tipping around in a rusty old Berlingo van

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,140 ✭✭✭James Bond Junior

Onslow would be in a Mondeo. Brand loyalty and all that. Or a tourneo connect for Grandads wheelchair.

    I reckon he'd be in a rust Vectra B or C

Has to be Mondeo diesel with injector problems for Onslow

I see where you're coming from, but even if the X-type was a glorified Ford, it still came from a posh brand. Whereas Rover was always a brand trying-to-be-posh (which is why it was perfect for KUA, they completely nailed it with that choice). Vignale is in the same realm for me.

Victor Meldrew is definitely driving a Fiat Tipo or a Seat Ibiza

Simon in the Inbetweeners probably got something newer than the mid 90s Cinquecento.

A mid 2000s Matiz perhaps (in that bronze colour they done)?

Although it doesn't work as well as they'd no longer be teenagers..!

Yeah thought about that too.. fit Neil in there.. but too expensive.

    Maybe a MK1?

But I thought that for Bean.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,544 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The cinquecento would have only been around 12 years old at the time.

Vauxhall Mokka, the Rover was aspirant of a premium saloon when saloins were king, these days it's all about the SUV and let's face it, it has to be british and it won't be a Range Rover.

Nothing comes close for comedic effect. A beat up Corsa B based Vauxhall Combo might be tragic enough but still very poor choice in comparison.

The Smith & Sniff podcast covered the specifics of the OFAH Regal if done now - needs to be ~15 years old but look much older (and preferably a bit silly looking) Came up with a run-out Citroen C15.

    Knight Rider in a Tesla?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,450 ✭✭✭CharlieCroker

I think with the van, it won't just be the vehicle but the context.

I reckon it would be something like an ex-Royal Mail or British Telecom van, still in faded corporate colours. Something like a Vauxhall Astravan

Onslow now would have been a mid 90s boy racer before he met Daisy, he's probably still trying to keep a Mk1 Impreza going.

Gold paint flaking off the fake wheels.

A fairly rough MK3 Mondeo would fit the bill

    Edit...

    Onslows front garden

I think for Moster beam a Toyota IQ or a Renault Twingo the most recent one with the engine at the rear.

What about The A-Team? I think a VW Transporter in black all souped up

Night rider? I think it would have to be some Chevrolet or Chrysler thing.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.
