Is it the first one to the left when going from the Reservoirs towards the R114? If so, it's hilariously steep and goes through a farm, so sheep can laugh at you as they please :D
Mercian Pro's pic of said lane/farm taken a few weeks ago. It doesn't do justice to the gradient there. It must be 20% +

I've done it from the other side which is a lot longer and even that is silly steep in places.

2nd place, isn't it someone from our parish?

That guy doesn’t exist anymore and I doubt will ever be seen again.

Great news Ken! Completed it last 3 years and always good craic (well, not the first year anyway...) Should have a couple of lads keen on it.

I hope the training is going well for everyone.
3 weeks left to get prepared.
I’m just about to break 1500 km for the year so I’m well under prepared.
Hopefully I can get 500 in over the next few weeks but I doubt it.
Anyway I’ll be there as usual, regardless of the suffering ahead.

I’m out. Not enough training. Maybe later in the year

Plan on being there and bringing one other. As long as it doesn't look like too bad weather wise.

We are doing the route as posted at the beginning of the thread?

Wouldn't it be easier to change to a 30/32 cassette and new chain to match? Then just refit the original cassette and chain afterwards. Otherwise you'd have to move the front mech.

    Or am I missing something?

Hard to believe that was 10 yrs ago! Followed by the wicklow 200 (which was easy in comparison)

I was almost hoping boards would stay down until after the 24th 😃.

Just over a week to go.

what time is the posse moving off at next Sat...?

(my lack of endurance doesn't make me too confident of getting around this yr...so i think i'll study the route for some exit points ...hopefully i can at least start )

Great to see you will be there again.

Isn’t it usually a half 7 meet up and roll out for 8 so happy to go with that again.

not expecting much from myself this year but I’ll be there.

    see you then

Hope to get to the start by 8.00. Getting to the finish by 8.00 might be more problematic 🥵.

On the basis that I won't be cycling over from Glasnevin, any suggestions for somewhere nearby to park the car?

I hear the last few km heading up to Sally Gap has been resurfaced with plenty of loose gravel around. Hopefully they have left the descent to Luggala alone!

There is a car park close to the Bottle tower pub with free parking. It’s only about 500m from the Luas bridge. See picture above.

I only live about another half a k up the road and you could park in the estate if you wish. Plenty of free spaces on the road.

Anywhere out of Dundrum by about 2km is free parking. I think lamb Doyle’s pub is also free.

Pm me if you need more information.

I drove to Sally Gap on Saturday, it's pretty much gravel road at the moment. Hopefully it's gonna be fixed this week.

Also Marlay park would be suitable for parking.

Not far from the finish line

Weather forecast is improving. Looking like no rain now on Saturday.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,001 ✭✭✭✭Wishbone Ash

Stuck a 30 on the back for a bit of comfort on Saturday. Going by the improving forecast, I'd say we'll get through a few bottles on the day.

Yep, that is the route. I think the only bit of road that we go back over is the 8km from roundwood to laragh via louch Dan. Shay Elliott is always done each side when leaving and coming back to laragh.

A get out point is after shay when we go up another climb and descend towards Clara Lara before the turn for the vale of Clara church climb. You could take the left there back to laragh and it would save you doing 4 climbs in that loop( there is 6 altogether on that loop.

I am still hoping to recover some more from my second vaccine shot.

feeling crap all week but still 2 more days to get about better. The weather looks great and although I am not expecting much from myself, I am really looking forward to it.

My endurance on the hills isn't great this year but I'm going to give it a shot. Even if I blow up after 100- 120km it'll still have been a big day out as far as I'm concerned

Best of luck all. Looking forward to reading your reports.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,347 ✭✭✭Daroxtar

Just don't go into the big/big and you'll be fine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,033 ✭✭✭irishrover99

Bike ready, weather looks great, need the legs to do their part now.

See you all between 7.30-8am at the Luas bridge in Dundrum
