Savage just seems fake and bland to me and has a terrible sounding laugh. He's a PR consultant after all so is probably terrified of being disliked or causing offence.

Actually, someone did point out that he wouldn’t be suited for serious current affairs due to his other work.

I fully believe that Pat Kenny will never retire.

The man seems to have the constitution of a horse; he doesn't look, or sound, like a man in his 70s. There mustn't be a child left in Dalkey with a sup of adrenochrome in their heads.

He has started to think and behave like a privileged man in his 70s since lockdown though.

Still remains the best broadcaster by a distance compared to anybody else on regular radio shows in Ireland IMO

I like Savage as he seems to be well briefed on a wide range of subjects and doesn't keep on about himself for half the show, unlike some other presenters.

The problem could arise if he is media training a TD or someone else in the media on how to avoid question's and run down the clock, and them having to interview them, don't know how that would work out.

Not PK related as such but the new boards site is terrible, can't find my favourites and what's with the huge list of people online at bottom? Whole thing is unwieldy.

That’s only on the Touch version of the site, I think. Going to take awhile to get used to things.

Alastair Campbell is one to talk about populism - New Labour embraced Tory policies to get elected. And then Iraq. Campbell denounces culture war rubbish whilst feeding the wars constantly.

Has Pat got no serious contributors to his programme?

A rather rosy picture of foreign travel during Covid methinks

The NHS doctor who was on earlier. Spent a lot of her time complaining about how under resourced they have been over the last 18 months.

Yet she still managed to write a book during it.

I thought she was very dogmatic in her criticism. For the record I think what England are doing is very risky and not something I'd be comfortable with but to complain that there is some ulterior motive that 12 year olds are not getting vaccinated is a bit extreme. There are perfectly valid reasons not to vaccinate 12 year olds (less affected, lack of vaccines for countries that badly need them). I just got the impression she was more motivated by dislike of Boris Johnson than anything else.

    Very!

And all this "make sure you check out the requirements and restrictions in the country you're going to" - all well and good, but what's in place today might change tomorrow, and change again next week, and again when you're there. I've never heard any of them pointing that out.

And for that reason alone, I won't be travelling abroad for another while yet!

I made that comment when your one from travel firm was on saying how great Spain is atm but you might want to book a lounger, she didn't say much about bringing back a new varient.

Didn't realise Spain had a new variant now. Maybe you should let WHO know as you seem to have the scoop on it.

Pat off again about antigen testing.

Surely someone should pull him aside and tell him that was never the plan. No antigen testing is going to stop the spread of this disease. Vaccines was always the only real option.

Pat is having a great time with the "I told you so" about the antigen testing. While I agree with the sentiment, I don't like the gloating.

Had to laugh when he nearly spat out the line..."the so-called experts in NPHET".

Its not either or, it has to be a combination of both vaccine and antigen testing.

about time they just made cannabis legal for all. can't see it happening anytime soon, but it should be done.

€9500 for three months worth of cannabis !!!! WTF , someone is pocketing a lot of money from this

I saw an article on German study where they estimated that antigen testing accounted for 40% of the reduction in numbers in May and vaccination for 16%. As far as I know it wasn't peer reviewed but bear in mind Germany had higher rate of infections in spring but then they went down significantly and opened more and our numbers stagnated or slowly decreased.

well any thing that helps. Just don't think antigen is the magic bullet that Pat thinks it is, but he is so worked up about it at this stage he cannot let go.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 11,017 Mod ✭✭✭✭humberklog

Ah he's never said anything like it being a silver bullet.

He's only tried to get a good answer as to why we weren't using antigen testing and when he couldn't get someone to give a sound answer he has gotten more and more frustrated. And rightly so.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,342 ✭✭✭Mav11

Pat never said that, he always maintained that it was a useful support to vaccine and PCR testing. He also had to beat the drum on antigen testing to overcome the arrogance of NPHET on the subject.

So when should foreign travel be safe to start again ? in your opinion? or do you think we should be forever hiding under our beds ?

'Freedom Day', it's like something made up by writers of the Simpsons.

We have family holiday booked but I think you have to take into account something could go wrong. As for dangers of travel I think at moment Ireland is more a threat to the rest of EU (excluding Spain and Portugal) than the rest of EU is a threat to Ireland.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,168 ✭✭✭✭whisky_galore

I know we're all chomping at the bit, but I think you would need to be an nawful eegit to have your hol booked to start EXACTLY on the 19th.

22,500 passed through Dublin Airport yesterday.

I didn't hear of any major problems.
