New PS3 Purchase

Hi Guys
After many happy years with a PS2 i switched to XBox after the PS2 blew up. While happy with the Xbox i have decided to switch back to the PS3.
Due in a large part to the new purchase of a 40" LCD Samsung TV that i wish to watch Blue Ray on as this is now the format of choice.

I am trading in the Xbox and games. unless i get them sold and will pick up my new PS3 in a week or so. So while getting an extra controller, and PS eye Is there anything else that is a must purchase early on?

I will be making a regretable move from Pro evo to Fifa 08, while this hurts after playing both, Fifa wins this round (that bloody hurts to admit:mad:)

COD4 Modern Warfare looks just fantastic, this is also a first day purchase.

I also have 3mb broadband (BT) ready so is getting online easy enough as the Xbox was hands down brilliant for online play.

Hi,

I would recomend that you pick up the sony remote control for the PS3 especially if you are going to use it as a blu-ray player.

I have both a Xbox360 and a PS3, however to be honest I think that the 360 is a better allround games machine in terms of selection, best multiplatform versions and Online functions, however there is very little in it. The PS3 is however a far better Media server device for music, pics and videos and most importantly does not sound like a jet engine.

The PS3's online stuff is easy enough to setup, but it lacks the integration into games that the 360 has. If it is an original xbox you are coming from then the PS3's online featerues are better than that.

Motorstorm is pretty cool for online. Drakes fortune is a must, if you can rent it; rent heavenly sword, beautiful but very short.

As for hardware, a blue tooth, keyboard\mouse combo can come in handy.

I find the controller grand for DVD/BluRay playback. Warhawk is a brilliant online game and at €30 very good value. Dra
kes is brilliant, I'll be getting FIFA to rent to try it our as PES is so bad. COD sounds like a must. Keep an eye on play.com - They had GRAW2 and Rainbox 6 Vegas for €27.99 a while ago, as well as other titles.I'm enjoying career mode in F1, but I wouldn't have paid top money for it - It looks stunning though.

hey guys! just bought my one today!!!! ooooohhh the joy of a new machine! I remember getting my mega drive back in the day,then my sister got her PS1(older....bitch!) and then I got my N64,then I got my PS2 (the insane joy I felt with that and HL2),then the original XBOX(altho I was somewhat 'meh' about it at the time) countless PC's and laptops I've bought and sold over the years,and now,my black beauty! We had a 360 in the house I was living in last year and it was wicked! But to be honest,I just couldn't turn my back on sony! There's something so classy about Playstation! Plus I have another PSP now so it just makes sense! And low and behold,if MGS4 came out....and I was sitting there with my xbox.......no....no that just wouldn't do!haha! I love the media center abilities of this machine and I'm looking forward to hacking the balls off it! For now though, bit of Assassin's Creed will have to do!

Any advice on stuff I should get?

Looking to get mine maybe this weekend if not next, any good deals going that you here off please drop me an update or PM. best i see is 400 from komplett for PS3 and i will get a few games from amazon.com. maybe get a few pre owned games from Game like Fight night etc.

ive seen ps3 for less than 400 last week in game,think it was 400 with one game and 410 with assassin's creed.

Huh? why get from komplett? Its actually cheaper to get here in a shop like Virgin/zavvi or Xtra Vision... last i checked anyway.

Better off getting it from HMV. Console and 3 games 470€. I think its a choice of 2 Sony Games the usual choices (Drakes, motorstorm, ratchet and clank, resistance, folklore, warhawk) and an EA Game. Drakes Folklore and Burnout isnt a bad deal. They have a deal made up of games, blue ray and a hdmi lead too.

Game have a similar one, but you cant choose games. Drakes, Burnout and ooh, oh no..... Kane and Lynch

Also €470. They have a good deal for €450

Another reason to buy from a shop is that they'll replace it quickly if anything goes wrong. I know PS3s have a low failure rate but I was unlucky enough to get one which (while it ran fine most of the time) used to freeze every five minutes on certain games. HMV replaced it on the spot for me, no questions asked (I didn't even have it's box.) That would have been a much more lengthy process has I bought online.

Yeah I got mine from Xtra Vision for 399.99 by itself, kinda ok with that cause there isn't any major stores in town and returning it would be a major pain in the ass! This way it's sound if anything goes wrong with it! Goin to galway tomorrow for another bit of my tattoo etc so I'll get a HDMI cable and a game of some sort! I've borrows COD4 and Assassin's Creed from a friend. Can you suggest anything else that is a must own right now? Watched Apololypto on Blu Ray last night too(i've my mates HD cable too :P) ****ing great quality, I'm awful happy with it! Anyone that buys a solo blu ray player is a mug!

whats the dealio with the bluetooth on this bad boy? there is bluetooth right? lol! can I get a keyboard and mouse hooked up or what? is there a seperate PS3 set?

Any usb mouse and keyboard should work. Dont think there are FPS's that support them though. You can use a hub to extend your USB ports. Only two on 40gb.

Theyre all pretty similar deals everywhere, the pick and mix thing is going in england as well. Game have very similar deals. Smyths and Gamestop have sonly only packs if i remember correctly. I would say HMV have the best choice.
Although i think amazon had a good deal going last month if you really wanted to go down that route.

looks like i am going to Game, At least i can get shot of my old XBox and games. Going for a PS3 plus 2 game deal. will also get COD4. Can play until 17th Feb though? birthday pressie

Kinda an obvious one but dont forget the HDMI cable.

Also you could try pick up a used copy of Resistance Fall of Man.
I think the online gameplay is great fun.

Unreal Tournament III does, or rather will. Bluetooth kb and mice work too.
