A woman who was forced to remove her nipple rings with pliers before boarding a flight in Texas, has demanded an apology and said she wants the US government to investigate the incident.

Mandi Hamlin, a 37-year-old graphic artist from Dallas, said: 'It was just total humiliation in front of people I had no earthly idea who they were.'

Gloria Allred, Ms Hamlin's attorney, said the woman was given a pair of pliers in order to remove the rings in her nipples. She added that the rings had been in her nipples for many years.

Ms Hamlin said she wanted a public apology and for the US Transportation Security Administration to investigate the incident, which happened in February as she was boarding a flight from Lubbock in Texas, to Dallas.

TSA spokesman Dwayne Baird said he was unaware of the nipple ring incident.

He said: 'I'd be really curious to know what this woman had in her nipples,' adding that he had 'never heard of any of our people having anyone remove something that sounds as small as a nipple ring.'

Ms Allred said the TSA's measure was 'cruel and unnecessary.'

She said: 'The last time that I checked, a nipple was not a dangerous weapon.'

But it set off the metal detector and they hardly made her do it in front of the other passengers... etc.

Ha, you will be able to allow the TSA officers to have a visual inspection in future, instead of removing the piercing!

    The japs eye?

    Sweet jesus no!!! ;)

The fact she had one in the first place shows she is not even mentally fit to board an aircraft without parental supervision anyway.

I'd say she ran into one god-fearing redneck hick security officer who wanted to teach her a lesson in decency.
Good jobe she hadn't invested in clit-jewellery!*

*Actually, can I say that here? I'll edit if not.

Stateside metal detectors are calibrated to ridiculously high standard. Im convinced if you had an Iron Supplement for breakfast that you would be blocked from passing through security. It only takes as much metal as is in a 1 cent coin or your phones sim card to set it off.

Tbh I dont know why they didnt treat it like a medical implant, for instance.

Depends on which ariport and which line you go through - they're all calibrated differenty.

They are generally calibrated to detect copper & copper alloys - i.e. bullets. I generally walk through with phone etc in my pocket and they don't go off.

She must have had some cheap ass nip-rings though, doesn't copper make youre skin go green? /needs a puking emoticon

You don't even need to go to the states, my ex girlfriends father had such high iron content in his blood he set off detectors travelling in mainland Europe, he had to get a doctors cert for future flights!

Best one yet i seen was when i brought a box of Crunchies over to an american mate of mine for his kids..

He took a few with him when we were flying outof Manchester New Hampshire to go to Vegas for a few days, and there is some arabic writing on the side of this gold coloured wraper.. and hes a little dark skinned.

They stripped him down to his boxers.. broke open the crunchies smashed them up and then put them back in his case.

    Most funny.
