God no. Right now it's looking like the IPO comp in July and possbily WPF world champs in Vienna in November depending on some other factors.

Just fwiw, if you're planning on breaking any World Records at the comp in June you have to have been a member of the IDFPA for something like 6 months before the comp so unfortunately they won't stand (Unless you're already a member of course ;)).

EDIT: You would have had to qualify for them at the Nationals anyway...nevermind...

Not me, I'll probably cover some of them for a local paper...

Hanley, I presume there will be some lads from Dublin entering a few of those competitions. Will Ger Smith enter the one in Monaghan you reckon? Yourself?

Nah both myself and Ger are going down to Limerick in July. There's be two or three more Dublin lads lifting there too.

I might head up to Monaghan next month to check out the comp, but I won't be lifting.

Are these 'other factors' things like developing a decent physique and attaining the muscle mass needed to fill out your singlet? Is that what you're talking about.

If my records won't stand there's not much point in entering....looks like I'll be staying fat and lazy till next year now.

You wouldn't have been able to enter anyway unless you qualified at the Nationals at the start of the year. And it's only world records that don't stand.

A bit pedantic but filling or not filling out a singlet doesn't make a difference (unless the judge has a problem with it being too loose). It's making sure your squat/deadlift suit and bench shirt are tight enough so you can get the maximum benefit from them.

Ehhhh I dunno if you're joking or being serious.

I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt and assume it's a joke. So "ha".

Yep, the Ireland Nabba's is on Sunday 21st of Septmeber. Venue hasn't been 100% confirmed but most likely the former Spirit club on Abbey Street

  • Banned (with Prison Access) Posts: 21,981 ✭✭✭✭Hanley

Yeah... that'd be awesome. You'd have to nearly TRIPLE your bodyweight this time tho. Ya know, go from 52.5kg right up to 145kg+.

Just curious if you're gonna clarify what you meant here or whether you're just going to leave it be?

Btw, the old Spirit is now called "The Academy"

I was...as we say in my country...taking the piss....see that is the thing about the Irish....you guys are always so serious...so regimented and up standing...so sophisticated and intellectual...you guys just work hard, train hard, eat well and pay your taxes...the Irish just need to loosen up a bit and relax...why don't you be the first.

Wouldn't have a clue what you're talking about...so I'm assuming it is either hysterically funny or extremely insulting....which ever it is...well done and keep up the good work.

Spirit is the old name for a venue, The Academy is the new name for the same venue. Its nothing to do with comedy/insults or actually 'spirit'.

I'm going to try an cover some of these events if some of the papers will take a story, never really see mch about them in the press, might take one of those 'quirky' side-sports stories... who knows...

The northside people actually covered the Hercs Club Champs (I think it was, it was definately a comp in Hercs anyway) about 4 or 5 years ago. I actually remember seeing the guy in the photo squatting and thinking "what a fcuking monster", now some years later I'm on a first name basis with him and have spotted, loaded and lifted off on numerous occasions!!

I believe it's the IPO Leinster Open.

    IPO being Irish Powerlifting Organisation.

Should see some big numbers on the day and a kick ass monolift!

Galway City Gym, (female/male) few winners there and some nice up and comers, next national comp might have a few surprises with the first timers.

Anyone here a fan of the bb comps?

    http://www.flexcart.com/members/elitefts/default.asp?m=PD&cid=167&pid=2648

Basically so you don't have to walk out the squats.

You unrack the bar and a guy pulls back a lever which removes the rack that held the bar. Lifter squats then level is pushed back so the rack returns to it's original position and lifter re-racks the bar.

Score!! Nice one!! I love the way you always show up to help out!! (I'll take it as my birthday present :D). It's on at 12.30 alright. Starting then at least. Not too sure what's going on with flights. There's only 8 lifters afaik so maybe just one flight.

It's funny to think with even only 8 lifters there'll probably 6+ 300kg squat attempts
    whats a monolift?? /noob

The monolift's the squat rack in this vid of Chuck V: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q3KGgVN_8rI

It's so called cos you only need one motion to get it out of the racks. There's no need to walk it out as the rack swings away. It's a huge advantage for the guys with mad wide squats, not so much for guys like me tho.

Will Big Frank be there? I've never seen him squat!

I'll probably head in early, do a bit of training then just head down all sweaty, not having a shower if I'm just going to get sweaty again straight after.

    Lol... troof.

It's so going to be just a club comp. I'm not even sure if there'll be the right amount of refs!! I know Ben's one of them, but I dunno about anyone else. Ger said Shane Brodie's not coming up.

    AFAIK the lifters are:
    Me
    Ger
    Dave S
    Bernie
    Della
    Kyle
Billy (older guy, late 50's/ear;y 60's - still pulls 170-180)
Possibly Martin Dillon too, tho I'm unsure there.

How long is a piece of string....

Off the top of my head; (all lifts = squat/bench/dead and assume all lifters are untested, tho I know for a fact some of them are drug free)

    90kg - 310/255/311
    100kg - 322.5/230/280
    125 - 390/255/340
