I was down in the factory today and I can absolutely state without any hesitation that EVERYTHING with these guys is above board. Not only is every batch quality tested and reatained for testing at a later day again if needs be, but the factory is also subject to both scheduled and unschdueled health, safety and quality audits from customers and any independent agencies that they employ.

It's the real deal folks. I got to try out alot of the flavours (Frappucino's bad ass when mixed with milk. I'd be awesome to add some oats to and have as breakfast!!) and I was really impressed with the whole set up. There's a few new flavours on the way too. I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say, but as soon as the banana yogurt flavour comes out you guys better get an order in quick, because if you don't I'll probably buy ALL of it. It's on par with NutritionX's RAM in the taste department. It would be absolute heaven with milk.

I've a tub of Recovery and NRG-Blast sitting in my room that I'll probably try out today or tomorrow so I'll be reporting back with my thoughts on them soon.

I just want to say another big thanks to all the guys involved in getting the tour done today. You know who you are.

If any one has any questions I'll try my best to answer!!! (tho Mark's probably the man to talk to!)

choc-orange flavour Whey? whats it like??
Very good, although better with water than with milk - the orange doesn't really taste so good with dairy!

Pina Colada is tropical deliciousness in a tub - bang it into a blender with diced pineapple and some ice and you have a fantastic and ridiculously tasty post-workout shake.

Banana yoghurt is to die for, super creamy but quite strong so if you're not a fan of 'nanas you might not take to it.

Triple berry is very berry and very creamy.

I've yet to try a flavour I didn't like to be honest and they mix very well in a shaker bottle. Some don't blend as well with milk and can get quite clumpy if just mixed with a fork, but that just means I need to stop being such a forgetful mare and remember to bring my shaker with me in my gym bag :o

God be with the days when people were happy enough with just chocolate and vanilla, and maybe even, strawberry! :p

    What's the NRG like?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,197 ✭✭✭Baldie

On the back of the Whey tub, it says that the serving is 200ml of water with one scoop of whey. Is this not a bit small for a serving? Is every one just taking one serving at a time or are you taking double (400ml + 2 scoops) of maybe triple (600ml with 3 scoops) servings at a time??

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,985 ✭✭✭pvt.joker

No thats normal. The pro-x whey says between 150-200ml per 30g scoop.

I normally only take 1 serving at a time

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,179 ✭✭✭FunkZ

Well I just ordered a few bits. Got 5lbs of chocolate whey, 1lb of chocolate orange whey. 2lbs of vanilla casein. 3lbs of Cell, lemon and lime flavour, hope it tastes good! And 10lbs of Mass Gain that I probably won't use for another two months, chocolate flavour! It feels like Christmas!

    :)

It really depends on how much protein you need to take in each day (each scoop is just over 23g of protein) although anything more than two scoops at a time will really only lead to very expensive pee...

If I'm using whey as part of a meal (in porridge for e.g.) I'll use one scoop. If I'm drinking it as a mid-meal snack I'll drink two scoops.

I'd normally only take it immediately after training (a two serving size), that's why i was wondering about the serving size.

What is it with people putting porridge into the shaker with the protein? I've seen this once or twice in the gym.

They're getting the carbs in.In actual fact porridge isnt the best thing to take immediatly post-workout,you'd be better off with high GI carbs like glucose or Maltodextrin.

If they're doing it in the gym it's a total waste of time - oats are slow-releasing complex carbs and they are good for sustained energy, hence I'd eat it in the morning at breakfast with some whey to boost my protein intake.

Post-workout you want fast-acting simple carbs like sugars that will create a big surge in insulin and allow your body to maximally absorb protein.

After a workout protein is essential, but adding some carbs to the protein will allow your body to shunt all that protein much quicker into your cells. Simple sugary carbs cause a big spike in insulin, which in turn 'opens' your cells and allows them to absorb protein quicker and easier. (As an aside, this is one reason why you don't want fats of any kind post-workout - not only will it be absorbed quicker but it will slow down digestion of protein too.)

You know that sugar crash that people often complain about? That's the insulin spike caused from eating sugar coming rocketing back down at breakneck speed. When you eat small regular meals you keep insulin in check and it stops your energy levels from constantly fluctuating. But post-workout is one time when you WANT that insulin to ramp up, because it helps your body to use the food you give it.

Hence the reason why post-workout shakes like RAM are so popular, because they contain the perfect blend of simple carbs AND protein to give your body everything it needs.

Excellent post. Just ordered some RAM, as previously I was taking whey shake, and some lucozade sport also PWO, but lucozade probably isnt high enough in sugary carbs?
The RAM will do the trick perfectly

Class. I took some today to try it out (wasn't training tho) but it had me bouncing off the walls. It's REALLY nice tasting too (orange flavour at least!).

I'm gonna use it before training tomorrow and will be able to give a more conclusive evaluation then, but judging by my energy and mood afterwards it worked!!!

No but in a supplement factory thread I woulda thought the people woulda been looking at supplement factory products. But I suppose when you've someone sponsored by a rival competitor recommending stuff in the same thread it can be confusing.

Does it compare with bulkpowders.co.uk then?

The prices are certainly close. And all the flavour's that I've tried have been really good. And I don't have to go to the hassle of mixing all my own stuff up. I've alot of bulkpoweder and supplement factory stuff to get thru. Once all that runs out I'll be getting my next order off The Supplement Factory (with my own money).

So yes, I think it does compare favourably!! Plus it's nice to support Irish business.

I agree about supporting irish businesses. It would be nice if they had stuff like BCAA's ,Maltodextrin,L-Carnetine,ZMA etc that bulkpowders sell by weight very cheaply. If they increase the range of products i reckon they'll have it sewn up in no time.As for flavours,it doesnt bother me at all,i've been necking unflavoured whey for so long i find the more exotic flavours too sweet.
